    Do Sales rep know anything?

Ok, so the one big thing is that they know other people that can help. ggreat

But what the fuck are they good for when I have questions about their own program and all i get is:

send email here, im not in charge
    send her an email
    send him an email
    i dont handle this
send email here i cant help you
all i do is persuade ppl to join, i am a sales whore.

they know who they fucken are, the worst kinds ive met are the hosting reps who knows nothing and cant help you coz all they're jobs is to get u to get more hosting with them.
    Someone finds you...

Yeah sounds like total crap to me. Sales in some way, shape or form must be better than or equal to their commitment to customer service. Often, too often that's not the case. Another problem too is companies hiring boneheads to sell for them because they can offer a low salary. You get what you pay for when you put a bonehead in charge of representing your company. Sales is a delicate process and something most people totally suck at.
You deserve to make more money. I'll help you do that.

Most reps know as much as the program owners allow.

Let me just say that I have people hitting me up all the time for advertising, traffic, etc. etc.

I deal specifically with sales, so while I can offer advice and suggestions on those things, inevitably they need to speak with someone else to get what they're after.

I'd assume most people don't want their time wasted and would rather talk to the person who can help them directly, so I'm gonna send them there.

Now, if I can't help them when it comes to what MY job is, then yes, I'm useless.

However, something to keep in mind is in a large company, it's sometimes necessary to "Go through channels" to get a definitive answer.

edit-when it's something I can RELAY to the person and find out FOR them, I'll do that too, because then I've learned something that will help me in the future as well.

It's unfortunate when you run into those situations. In my experience they are far and few inbetween. Also, Furious Male is correct, some only know as much as they are allowed. Some unfortunately, have no idea how to play the game and that they need to find out the information for you and then get back to you. Some are just glorified board person's and some are just the eye candy that gets you in the door. With that being said, there are a hell of a lot of reps that know what they are talking about and you see them time and time again.

Ive talked to Rinaldo and Sherie, and they are totally cool and help me when i need it.

IT these others that just pitches the idea, then relies on a program's backend instead of knowing some of the basic answers.

Well, I don't handle fraud and I don't handle checks. If you've had your account terminated because of fraud, I can't help you at all I can email accounting to find out about payments and I do that, but usually a webmaster will get a faster response doing it themselves because it enters a trouble ticket

The reps I usually talk to know pretty well what they're talking about. I'm not sure which person or rep you're talking specifically about but there is usually at least 1 rep per company who knows what they're talking about.

I've never understood this either. I'm not talking about what Peaches mentioned as that's obviously something that a normal sales rep won't be able to answer. However, the ones that can't even tell you about the program they are repping aside from a few lines they memorized should be fired on the spot. They seem to not even want to learn for the next person that asks which reminds me of minimum wage, worthless employees.

I have had mixed experiences.. Some will go above and beyond to get you what you need, and even give you more than what you need and others have no clue about any aspects of the business other than spamming their stuff.

That being said, if anyone needs anything regarding www.meatcash.com or any other of our programs feel free to hit me up ;)

                                          Hey, what's PPS?

                                          ;-)

I try to do as much as possible, but there are several issues that I really do need to "pawn off" to the necessary departments for most effective action. Example: support and billing. Sometimes I'll have people asking me to add domains, create FTP accounts, etc, things I CAN'T do. However, if someone asks me a basic question about PHP, HTML, or other related issues I can usually answer because I'm a webmaster myself.

However, something to keep in mind is in a large company, it's sometimes necessary to "Go through channels" to get a definitive answer.

edit-when it's something I can RELAY to the person and find out FOR them, I'll do that too, because then I've learned something that will help me in the future as well.

                                                  very true.

yet I think they are talking about affliate reps and not content reps. two totally different people I think with different responsibilities.

when it comes to affliate programs I usually do recommend sherie and have as well Dwreck... when it comes to content and plugin's I have no fear in even pushing my competitor Ron from plugin feeds at any chance. Our friendship and relationship is how every competitor should work and I respect him for that and much more.

agreed there are reps who try and out-do one another for attention, while others simply are for show because they have boobies. That is why you only remember a handful of affliate reps because they have proven themselves very useful to webmasters. Sadly - many companies do not give the proper respect to a great rep feeling everyone and anyone is expendable.

Im sorry to hear that you have this opinion, but I dont think you will have to travel too far in order to get a great well knowledged person that will meet all the criteria you judge others by. I pride myself in the knowledge i have of our programs. I am also not afraid to admit when i do not know something,if i don;t know i will find out immediatly.....That means you have to wait a couple of seconds while i find out instead of some line of BullShit. My success is based on the level of service i can provide. I only hope that i am doing the job i am suppsed to be doing.

                                                          Sales rep?
Sales rep is someone that works for someone actually closing the deal. IE, you work at a bank and you get the guy ready to refinance and you pass him to your Supervisor to close the deal.

Account managers are who you are referring to. If your account manager can't answer your question and doesn't make an effort to get the answer for you somehow some way, then ask for a different manager. An account manager's job is incredibly complicated. They are expected to "Manage" your traffic and optimize it's performance. Sure some don't bother to do this, but will they be around in 2 years?

I can name 12 people in this business, Sherie included that I'd recommend without a moment's hesitation. Because They know what they're doing and they'll make you money. Stock brokers are the same way, some make you money, some just hook you in and watch you lose it all.

Your traffic is Money, whether you know it or not. So choose your account managers wisely. Those of you that don't pick one or that ask not to have one are making a mistake, because we know what converts, we will know when there's an error and we are ultimately the ones that will notify you when we see something you should know about.

It is how you deal with not knowing the answer that counts. If you use it as an excuse not to help then yes that is a bad thing. However, most clients understand if you have to go ask a question to give an accurate answer so just be honest with them and do your best to get the answer to them in a timely manner and you are step ahead of the game.

A lot of companies put people in the wrong roles and set them up for failure as part of their company protocol. It reflects bad on the person and even worse on the employer. To put a sales-rep in the role of a program manager or an account representative will cause problems. Likewise to have an account rep try to sell a program is detrimental.
