No. I'm several miles from there. Explosions were as high as 300 feet in the air. Smoke and particles were being blown towards downtown Detroit.Toxins in the air should have disapated before reaching ground levels. Some people did go to the hospital though. No one was in or near the plant when it happened so no one was hurt. Not sure why those who went to the hospital did.

News stopped coverage at 2 AM. They said the fire should burn for another 8 hours or so. The explosion happened at 9 PM. FIre fighters couldn't get anywhere near it.

They'll let it burn now so the chemicals burn and don't become toxic !

Thats not how it works. Toxic chemicals mix in the air when they burn. Possibly forming more toxic things.

I'd be more worried about the ones I couldn't smell; I think by the time I could smell 'em it'd be too late.

Yeah. Smell isn't really any sign of dangerous exporsure. Your nose is increibly sensative. It can pick up partcles that may be as low in density as 1:1,000,000. Also, there are many dangerous, odorless gases. The most well known one being carbon monoxide.

Watched it on TV last night. Most amazinf thing ihave ever seen. The first blast has reports at a mushroom cloud and fireball hitting as high as 500 feet.

I am glad to see that you are ok. The govermen should make a law that chemical plants have to be a certain radius from residential areas.

There were nine employees in the plant at the time of the explosion, according to EQ representative Dan Gilbert. Gilbert said the employees were outside, which made it "relatively easy for them when the emergency siren went off to get off site."

Well a little good news in that story. What if there were 100s working in the plant at the time.

I am sure they will be monitoring the air quality in the area (not to mention worrying about ground water etc.). If I were in that area I would be taking a vacation right about now though.

Nasty.. Did it run through anyone elses mind that this is the third (I think) large chemical plant fireball in the last month or two? Strange.. it's it more coverage, or more fires?
