While it may have gotten W elected, it will ultimately destroy the Republican party

Pandering to these zealots will eventually divide Republicans enough between the fiscal conservatives and social moderates and the religious faction to the point where they'll eventually never win at the national level.

Got to love the radical wing of the party calling Roberts a liberal. To these hardliners Hitler would be "too soft" to lead...LOL.

Conservative Group to Oppose John Roberts By JESSE J. HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer
    26 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - A conservative group in Virginia said Tuesday it was withdrawing its support for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' confirmation because of his work helping overturn a Colorado referendum on gays.

The group, Public Advocate of the United States, is one of the first conservative organizations to announce anything but support for the judge

Eugene Delgaudio, the president of the group, said in an interview that he hopes his stance will prod others.

"I know that others feel the same way. I know they believe as I do. They're just not going to act," the 50-year-old Northern Virginia man said. "But once I've done it, then they can't claim that no one's opposing Roberts."

"We can't take our limited resources and put it toward a candidate who is not a strict constructionist when we were told he is," Delgaudio said.

Don't you just love how militantly the religious zealots stick to their outdated principles? I bet they'd just love it if we could have daily stonings of all the adulterous women, gays, and non-Christians in every town square -- now THAT'S democracy in America!

the Republican party isn't going anywhere, and last time I checked I'm pretty sure that your party was the one in disarray. regardless if you agree with our side or not, at least you know what we're for. no one had any fucking clue what the democrats really stood for last election, and I still dont think they've fixed that problem.

YOUR party? So anyone who is not a republican is automaticlly a democrat? Anyone who hates the Packers is AUTOMATICALLY a BEARS fan? Um no in the real world things aren't so black and white. Idiotic thinking like yours is why I left the republican party years ago. In fact REAL republicans would vote Libertarian if the GOP would quit making them think their vote would be wasted and quit scaring them into thinking that you have to vote republican so the evil democrats don't take over and turn everyone into gays who want abortions.

actually the funny thing is you have just perfectly described what has happened to the democratic party, and why they have lost so much ground in the last 8 years. when the lunatic fringe of the far left has become the parties platform, losing again and again is what will happen. funny that you are so accurate in theory, but fail to realize which party it has happened to.
