      He is right !

They should also include the ones that died in Afghanistan:

The Pentagon says a 31-year old Marine from Emporia was killed Thursday fighting in the war on terror.

Gunnery Sgt. Theodore Clark Jr. died when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Gardez, Afghanistan.

Clark was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Pendleton, California.

Clark's wife and two children live in Florida.

You are taking what he is meaning out of context. He is not meaning keeping track of them is wrong. His point was that the media is practically celebrating the higher the number goes because to them it makes them more right and sells more papers etc. Then you have people like Ted Kennedy with the ?more America?s that die the better life gets for me? syndrome. That is what he was saying. Not we shouldn?t keep track of the Americans.

LIMBAUGH: "The deaths pushed the U.S. military death toll in Iraq past 1,800"

This is sick. People are keeping a body count on this. As we mentioned yesterday -- all right, a brief time out. We'll be back. We will continue.

Yesterday was when he was talking about all the details of that. He just mentioned it on the show the next day. I have a friend who listens to his shows when he is at work so I ask him what he talked about yesterday and he explained the WHOLE point of that little bit you are reading.

So tell me then, what's a better way of measuring the atrocities of the war, besides keeping track of the people who have perished? By not keeping count, you are basically saying that those people do not matter. You're saying the impact is unimportant.

The casualty count is the only measurement of the impact we have.

Of course your Ditto-head friend would explain it that way

But, here's the entire article that Rush took out of context to make it sound like the media was "practically celebrating": http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...i140910D78.DTL
Sounds straight-forward reporting to me... there are a number of statistics reported, including those recently released from the defense department... nowhere do I get the impression the article is anti-Bush administration.

You are still not getting it. If you do not like someone and want to take them out then one of the first rules to war with them is to know them, you know the ole saying, know your enemy. So if you do not understand his point then you cannot defeat him. His point was about the media celebrating the higher the number of death goes. He was not saying that we shouldn't keep track of it. Taking him out of context to fit your own need to bash/hate him is not going to help you defeat him.

you have to remember if you report the news even in a factual way without bias it doesn't matter to these guys. they care little about fact, they only care about what might reflect on them in a negative way. so if you say something factual and without bias that reflects on their policies in a negative way or might produce a reaction that would question their policies you already fucked up with this administration.

So maybe Loryn's point was the media should not report on the war lest Ted Kennedy (and ilk) get ahold of this information and use it politically.

maybe. kennedy is garbage just like the president is though, funny enough that's why they made such great buddies. they don't either one of them really give a shit about their policies more than they do enriching themselves and their friends.

I agree that glorifying war and death is a bad thing, but I don't think the media doing this. The impression I get from the media is that as the body count rises we should continue to ask ourselves if it's worth it (in light of people's disagreements on whether the President did or did not lie about reasons for going to war) or ponder how much longer we may have to endure more dead.

Are there certain people that are celebrating the body count? Yes, but I don't think the media is, they're merely reporting the numbers. Without that we would be left in the dark about the toll the war is taking on human lives.

Perhaps my view would change if you could point out news articles in mainstream media that you think is celebrating the dead.

No the media should, but the media can also point out when people are not respecting the deaths and they are using them to make their points in life.

I love American media because of one simple fact, every side is reported. Between the internet, radio, TV, newspapers, magazines etc.... you can find every point of view and make your own decision. That is what is great. Anyone who thinks only one side is printed in this country, does not believe their own eyes.

Okay now I am really getting to work!

It's not the media's responsibility to report on who they think is respecting or not respecting the dead. Earlier you said that Rush said that some people or the media is celebrating the dead, which means that the disrespecting of the dead is being reported. If that's the case, we would all be able to see who is celebrating it and who isn't. Then we make the judgement to support those people or call them the gutless cold hearted people that they are.

ummm...???? why wouldn't it be the media's responsibility to [report]..... on anything then! wtf?

some media cover the deaths at certain milestones (i.e. 1000, 1500, 2000) with a certain, shall we say, energy. this is interpreted differently by each of us that see that particular story.

Now you can say all day that I am wrong to feel a certain way about a story and I could do the same to you, but that will do about as much good as this thread.

Do we have a count on how many Iraqis have been killed so far? How many were confirmed military? Just curious, because as I sit here right now and think about it, I honestly havent got a clue.. and I run the news pretty much all day long.

The media will and does report on reactions of people to policy and events and often opposite reactions. It doesn't tell us that so and so person is disrepecting the dead. We hear the reactions and words of the people being reported on and we decide whether we think they're disrespecting the dead or not. Any other way is biased reporting because it would be telling us how we should feel about somebody.

Unless it's an editorial, when a newspaper reports on a child molester it gives us the facts. It doesn't say "this monster should be hung from his nuts because he is the Devil incarnate". When we read about the molesters deeds, we can decide that for ourselves.

it doesn't get reported here because the US media pretty much doesn't give a shit how many iraqis die.

Or is there another reason? Because that reason is hard to accept frankly. We rely on military to count the dead, and what the military reports is what the media reports. Maybe since it hasnt been an "army" we've been fighting, those counts dont apply. Anyway, was just a side note.. If someone had the agenda to highlight the deaths in war, then one would think all deaths would be included.

It's just another bullshit bit of spin to make the "liberal media" look bad. There is no one in the media celebrating the high death toll of US soldiers. Even a small modicum of commonsense would tell you that... they'd be fired on the spot and lynched. It's just bullshit for idiots to lap up.

Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods, which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.

What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we're not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too.

...We are becoming too tolerant as a society, folks, especially of crime, in too many parts of the country.... This country certainly appears to be tolerant, forgive and forget. I mean, you know as well as I do, you go out and commit the worst murder in the world and you just say you're sorry, people go, "Oh, OK. A little contrition."... People say, "I feel better. He said he's sorry for it." We're becoming too tolerant, folks.

                                                                        --Rush Limbaugh TV show (10/5/95)

Don't you remember the crack cocaine epidemic? Crack babies and out-of-control murder rates? Liberal judges giving the bad guys slaps on the wrist? Finally we got tough, and the crime rate has been falling ever since, so what's wrong?

                                                                        --RushLimbaugh.com (8/18/03)

First of all, we tell people what they can do to their bodies all the time--no cocaine, no prostitution, no throwing yourself off a building. Second, laws are nothing but defining morality!

                                                                        --RushLimbaugh.com (6/27/03)

Now he is embattled--he's got a book that just came out, an autobiography that's soon to come out, I think, in which he admits that he was a mainliner as a teen-ager. This guy [pretends to stick needle in arm]--pfsst--shot up heroin. And people are praising him. He overcame the scourge. He triumphed over that profound obstacle in his life and has gone on to become this great schools chancellor.... [Plays a clip of Fernandez saying that the message of his teenage drug use is "to not give up on our kids."]

Reach out and try to help them, not give up on the kids, give them condoms and teach them about a bunch of stuff that is worthless in terms of preparing them for their future as adults in the greatest country on Earth, teaching them all this social gobbledygook. "Let's not forget about the kids."...

Whoa. The guy wants to be education secretary, folks. Watch out. Now why does he want to go to Washington? Probably because he's studied the case of Marion Barry. Here's a guy who got involved in drugs. You want to see my Marion Barry impersonation? Do you want to see that? All right. I'll do the Marion Barry impersonation.

You put some stuff out here on the table and you go [pretends to snort cocaine]. "You tell Jesse to stay out of my town. This is my town, and Jesse--you tell him to stay out. [More snorting.] And I said no, no, no, no, I don't smoke it no more. Tired of ending up on the floor." [More snorting.]

So what is he? He gets involved in drugs and ends up, ladies and gentlemen, as a newly elected official in Washington, D.C.... So I'm sure Joe Fernandez is looking down there saying, "Hey, there's a future for, you know, drug users in Washington, D.C."

                                                                        --Rush Limbaugh TV show (12/8/92)

--Rush Limbaugh radio show (quoted in the L.A. Times, 8/20/95)

I want to let you read along with me a quote from Jerry Colangelo about substance abuse, and I think you'll find that he's very much right?"I know every expert in the world will disagree with me, but I don't buy into the disease part of it. The first time you reach for a substance you are making a choice. Every time you go back, you are making a personal choice. I feel very strongly about that."...

What he's saying is that if there's a line of cocaine here, I have to make the choice to go down and sniff it?.And his point is that we are rationalizing all this irresponsibility and all the choices people are making and we're blaming not them, but society for it. All these Hollywood celebrities say the reason they're weird and bizarre is because they were abused by their parents. So we're going to pay for that kind of rehab, too, and we shouldn't. It's not our responsibility. It's up to the people who are doing it. And Colangelo is right.

                                                                        --Rush Limbaugh TV show (9/23/93)

I mean, if she wants to legalize drugs, send the people who want to do drugs to London and Zurich and let's be rid of them. Now...The problem with legalizing drugs is, it's just another abhorrent example of human behavior that we've suddenly decided, "Hey, we can't handle it. We've given up and we're going to sanction the destruction of lives. We're going to let you destroy your life. We're going to make it easy, and then all of us who accept the responsibilities of life and don't destroy our lives on drugs--we'll pay for whatever messes you get into."...

I'm appalled at people who simply want to look at all this abhorrent behavior and say, "Hey, you know, we can't control it anymore. People are going to do drugs anyway. Let's legalize it." It's a dumb idea. It's a rotten idea, and those who are for it are purely, 100 percent selfish.
