Thats why I miss the county. Hell, out there, no one would notice if you climbed up the pole in the middle of the night and connected your cable. Here, they'd have 10 calls into the cops before I even put the ladder up to the pole. In the country, one could actually make a tap relatively easily, esp. if the wires between your meter and the pole (the service drop) was buried underground, and that part of the wire was in your back yard. Most states even have a number you can call and they'll come out and mark the location of the wires for you, then all you have to do is (carefully) dig them up and then (very carefully) splice your connection in and put in an underground junction box.
