One place definately worth visting is Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula - tho it's one hell of a trip to get there by road (road is utter crap). It's basically a village, but the wildlife is used to humans and not too cautious - monkeys walk down the street. The whole place is a ... kinda wildlife paradise. A few of the best national parks are in that area (Corcovado etc) and there are plenty biologist type people who would be happy to show ya around.

National Geographic described that area as the most biodiverse place on the planet (awesome when you think they are putting it above the Amazon basin).

The gulf, Golfo Dulce, is full of sealife - whales, dolphins etc. Another area just next door is the Rio Sierpe - awesome river rich in wildlife (also some fairly large crocodiles!) - well worth taking a boat down the Sierpe.

We just finished a feasibility study on 650 hectares of land there - but doubt we will buy it cos it would mean messing with the enviornment in that area - and it's too senstive already. The wildlife people did a "catalog" of species on that area and it's a list of over 1200 species of wildlife and .. can't remember but around 3000 species of flora - it's literally a paradise

Ah.. easy way to get to Puerto Jimenez is fly into the "jungle airstrip" - there are two flights a day and don't cost much. The small town has at least 20 bars (and a couple of whorehouses as well *lol*). The people are very friendly (just edit out the leeches) and plenty folks (expats etc) who speak English.
