Depends which way the wind is blowing. Being 50 miles away will only protect you from the initial blast wave.The dust cloud formed by the explosion could be dispersed hundreds or thousands of miles. As an example, the dust clouds from Africa that somehow make it all the way to the US.
Also, if your water/food sources are contaminated you will still get radiation poisoning through ingestion rather than inhaling
