If you're into Mac stuff, the Macbook Pro's are decent well-built machines in general. They do however have issues.
I would suggest taking a look at IBM/Lenovo - specifically the T series. They are better build quality in my opinion than Apple, with only Apple being in the same remote league as they are.
Simply put, once you buy a Thinkpad you'll never go back to anything else. I use a T60 as my primary machine for both day to day in the office stuff (docking station) and I also drag it all over hell and back. I work with it from an inner tube on the lake, drag it on the boat, let the kid use it from time to time, and generally abuse the living hell of out it.
