Belize...How cool is it there?

where the fuck is Belize?

never heard of that place.

I have a friend who is an archaeologist and she goes with a team to Belize every year or two and digs around ruins hoping to find stuff. She loves it down there, she doesn't know much Spanish, but she wants to be there more so she is learning.

I went down there in the 80s to invest in a cattle ranch in the Mayan Mountains of Western Belize with my Dad. The land was beautiful with tall green grass, random Mayan ruins and a karst landscape. Then. we went to Belmopan and spoke with the Economic Minister.

His advice was stay the fuck away...because the socialist win every couple of elections and nationalize everything that foreigners establish. Then, a couple of years later, the social democrats get in and give the previously nationalized properties to their buddies to operate. He said it was really one big scam.

If you want a beach house, it will probably be ok, but, you don't want to buy anything substantial.

On another point, Belize City is the biggest, smelliest, wretched pit in the Western Hemisphere. I had a women offer to fuck me for stamps at the post office. The poverty is grinding, the stinking shit runs in the ditches, and the city locks down at sunset behind steel doors. Even with the beautiful beaches and fishing, the Brit soldiers say it is the worst duty station in the British Empire...

They speak English there, at least it is the official language

I've never been there, so I am just going on what she is doing because she loves the place. Apparently enough of them speak Spanish to make it worth her while?

Belize is the shit, stable currency, british banking laws, and awesome fishing. Caught this one off of Ambergrise Kaye. I love it there and am thinking about buying a place there too

I was down there a couple of years ago.. didn't like it that much. I hear much better things about Costa Rica..
