Saddam Hussein's date with history is over.
Only his date with destiny remains.
And now Iraq has set the time for his execution - sometime before 10pm (Toronto time) on Friday night.
The Iraqi leader had been sentenced to die on November 15th and was turned over to his new captors by American officials on Friday.
It follows a ruling by an Iraqi appeals court earlier in the week, which upheld a decision condemning Saddam to death for the killing of 148 people detained after an attempt on his life in the Iraqi city of Dujail in 1982.
Judge Munir Haddad, who participated in the court decision, said "all the measures have been done" and felt the execution was only a matter of time.
And now it really is.
Haddad may be among those in attendance at the execution.
The court suggested that the former president be hanged within 30 days.
It's believed the Iraqis wanted to carry out the sentence before a major Muslim holiday, which begins on Sunday.
Troops in the country are on high alert, fearing retaliation from the former dictator's supporters.
