I am the first person to see all support requests. Many of them can be handled at the panel level. So yes, frequently I do handle hosting support. You can ask any of our clients this.
Additionally, with a quick glance I can see how many domains someone has running on a server. I can also see how many MySQL datrabases they have. Simple math makes it easy to see that if they have 1,000 domains, and only 50 MySQL databases that there is some sharing going on.
I don't need to go digging into their sites to figure this out.
