I don't understand it either. When someone substitutes a word for another word... eventually that word will have the same meaning as the previous. If everyone suddenly stopped saying shit and said crap, then crap will become the same "offensiveness" as shit did. Actually that's kinda already happened, my niece got a swat at school for saying crap (they consider it a 'cuss' word). It's fucking ridiculous how you can have just about as much gore and violence on TV but as soon as someone says fuck or another one of the 'big ones' WHAM, instant bleep/censor.

Because words like "fuck" are associated with things that arent appropriate. No matter what its called, its never appropriate to talk about hardcore sexual matters in a family setting. Since "fuck" once meant nothing but sex it was never appropriiate to use the word. Thus weve been scolded for generations and it just keeps getting passed down as something bad.

Shit and fuck werent always used as exclaimations. They had very specific definitions.

Ok, if this is true, then why is Freak fine to say? It's relating to the EXACT same meaning, there is absolutely no difference in what a person means when they say Freak.

I guess my question isnt' really so much why the swear words are bad, but why it's not ok to say them but it is ok so say another word that is the exact same meaning. This leads me to believe that the word is the problem and not the meaning of the word, which is crazy to me.
