I went to graduate school with people from all over the world. One very common theme was europeans with a lot of Master's degrees in specific business functions.

Not just picking on France, but we had a bunch of French students that couldn't keep up. One fellow I had in a group project was said to have a Master's degree in Economics, but didn't understand basic concepts. We found out that a bunch of these degrees were earned by attending weekend seminars and didn't transfer into any type of education credits.

It was common for the professors to expect less from them. If they screw up your group project, the professors wouldn't hold you accountable.

Just my experience, I didn't read that anywhere.

What's not funny is that I have seen a couple variations on this experiment:

Could the lack of political concern and intelligence be that bad among the average college student? I decided to take a poll to prove that the lack of political intelligence exhibited by the students was a fluke. I took three pictures and polled students on how recognizable the figures were. One picture was of Dick Cheney, another was of Alan Greenspan, and the last was of Ashton Kutcher.

When showed the pictures of Ashton Kutcher, the results were what I expected. Every student polled knew who the Punk'd star was. However, I was frightened by the results I received when I polled the students using the photos of Cheney and Greenspan.

Only a shocking 70 percent of the students knew whom Vice President Cheney was and a dismal 10 percent knew who Alan Greenspan was. What made the whole poll so much worse was the fact that nearly all the students who did not recognize Cheney and Greenspan, when told, they still did not even know why they were people who they should know.

No kidding, if you look at a typical graduate level engineering/math/computer science class, you will see that probably half if not more are foreign students...

I remember staying at a hotel in New Orleans when a conference was being held by one of the "get your masters degree in a weekend" colleges that print you out a piece of paper after you give them a nice donation. It was hilarious to listen to them in the bar discussing world politics and trying to sound academic.

true true and it is confusing yes, the netherlands (lowlands) is the official name, but ive seen cred card processors use holland as well, and then the whole dutch/deutsch thing its confusing true.

Not quite true. Winnipeg is also very multicultural.

Of course a lot of small towns are going to be the way you described, but it's not only like that in Canada. I hear there are a few whitebread all-redneck towns down south as well. :D
