Yes, I am a complete moron for wishing potential child porn being reported to the authorities so that the individuals involved can be prosecuted and thrown in jail. Exactly one of the points why to choose registars that don't have such TOS's. Everyone who has readed the DirectNic TOS and compared it to other registars will see it's the whorst for a Domain Owner. There are maybe 189 points when they can cancel/terminate/delete/suspend your domain/account.

There have been many lessons, but i agree, everybody having domains with them should really take the time to read their TOS and maybe compare them with other Registars.
While so far i thought everybody has FULL contorl, ownership, property for his domain it seems it's registar/tos and national/state based decided what rights you have or not.
Everybody who wants at least to be sure that his registar has NO RIGHTS and DEMANDS for his domain(s) should really look for Registars like http://www.gandi.net which give you ALL RIGHTS and DO NOT demand any for them, means you have FULL ownership over your domain.

I started out with 900 numbers back in 93 (and other audiotext numbers), then worked for a paysite cataloguing content, worked for what was then one of the top paysite companies doing surfer support, opened thousands (tens of thousands, really) of my own freesites, worked with another large paysite doing affiliate support, and now while still having a few thousand freesites, I'm focusing on non-adult.

I guess I just feel that everyone should be held to the same standards. If linking to CP is bad, it should be bad for all sites that do it. The same goes for 2257. If we are doing it in our industry, EVERYONE should have to do it.
But I just wanted to see what your opinion on manual verification for all sites. So it's ok to link to CP if you're labeled a search engine, but not an adult site?Comment

But I think that is what the argument has really been about. Whether DirectNic should have been the one policing the site, or the authorities. I'm not saying DirectNic is bad for wanting to fight CP, I'm saying that they should have sent the complaints directly to the authorities before taking the law into their own hands.

Let's try again. I never once worked for Ron Levi in Audiotext. Ever. I worked for him at CE doing surfer support. He hired me because he was one of MY customers at the 900 company I worked with.
I've made more money doing freesites than I have doing anything else in the adult biz.
WEG offered me a consulting job doing affiliate support. I wanted to learn the paysite side of the biz, so I took it. When I found out Cory was my "manager", I stopped working for WEG within hours. I left on my own accord. I think the funniest thing is that before he knew I quit, he was asking people if I could afford to quit.
I've never done any business with Gonzo so I doubt he knows anything about my "marketing prowness". And since I've never done "marketing" in the adult biz, it's pretty much a moot point. Gonzo works with AEBN. I think some people have heard about it - hardly a company you've never or will never hear of.
Again, I still have my freesites, but I'm focusing on going back to school and investing in real estate. Real estate has so far been VERY good to me
And yes, I'm insane. People who've known me for my entire life will attest to that

And to be honest, I just let those freesites sit there. I rarely even look at them. I have bigger fish to fry.
I also deal with people who've either left adult completely or have non-adult stuff too with non-adult business.
No, I wasn't threatening anything. Per my attorney's instructions, I've turned everything over to the IRS. It's their decision if I was an employee or not. I wasn't paid much at WEG - was just there to gain experience - so even if they lose, there's not a lot of money in my pocket for the income taxes I paid. I don't know if the IRS charges penalties or not - again - not my concern.Comment

Couple of things - never comment on anything while a legal issue is ongoing. Never apologise for anything. Never feel the need to "update" anyone on anything. This may be how you feel - but your feelings don't matter during a legal process - rest assured they will be used by lawyers and not in the good faith you intended.
It is even more relevent to stay away from any comment if further counter legal action is being considered.

I can't believe this is still going on.. I don't promote teens.. But given what DirectNic did, there's no way in hell I'd ever use them.. I don't intent to put my business at risk with a company that will arbitrarily lock me out of my domains or shut down my sites. I really can't believe all the morons focused on the CP issue... What they did goes beyond that issue. In this case it was CP. Tomorrow they could get a report for something else "illegal". Do you really want to take that risk? Even if you have everything "legal" in place on your end that's no guarentee they wouldn't do the exact same thing to you.Comment
