                            To me, I treat my animals like I treat my kids, I demand respect from them, but I also GIVE them respect. I wouldn't walk around the house kicking my kids across the room, and I won't do it to my cats, I don't punch my kids in the face, so I won't do it to my dogs..... I will tap/touch them to get their attention, but hitting them doesn't do anything for it to me... in an absolute EXTREME case where they are endangering themselves or someone else, I may catch them a little harder, but ONLY to get their attention, then we go from there with the attitude, your attitude lets them know all they need to know.

                                BUT, I know what you mean, thing is, it is for ME more than anything, I am deathly allergic to the amonia in cat urine and I can't breathe with it in the air, so I am a major major bitch about those litter boxes.. it is extremely rare cases that you can even smell one cat in my house, much less 12... and NO, I am not a clean freak, my house is strewn like crazy.. just doesn't smell like a houseful of cats live here. lol

                                    I dont spank my dog even though he's very hard headed. I usually correct him by grabbing him by the skin of the back of his neck and say NO. He respnds better to a male voice though.

                                    A dog trainer told me once that the biggest mistake most people do is to expect the dog to understand them and not trying to understand the dog which is key in a good training.

                                                                    I find that when I get pissed or frustrated with them to the point of wanting to smack em, I just remove them from the room. Put them in the bathroom with the litter box or on the patio for a bit. The worst punishment for many pets is not giving them attention. However, this is less inclined to be punishment and more inclined to give some cooling off time before I lose it.

                                                                            That's what I have done to mine, they rarely ever piss me off to that point, they just don't act like fools... but when they do, it's in "time out" for their asses. Usually it is just the one Male, he takes spells where he wants to play "who's in charge" and he starts chasing the others..... that lands his ass in the bathroom for a couple of hours and he settles down REAL fast. He's my baby and he hates not being near me.

                                                                            And to answer that litter box thing, bu((aneer, I spaced that one. I have 4 litter boxes in my house. An average of one per 3 cats...

                                                                                            3 per box works too, we tried having more but they all use the same one no matter what.

                                                                                            Ours are so light (8lbs max) sometimes when i'm working it becomes a game to them...hop on my desk, ass in my face - pick em up and toss on on the beanbag or floor, they hop up and do it again. Eventually I have to get up open the patio so they can harass the birdies that come up to the feeder. Distraction is everything
