It's supposed to be an actual religion, but seems more like one of those cop-out things people take up. A lot of people I've met that claim to be wiccan are just people who don't have the balls to say 'im athiest, fuck god!'Comment

LOL my sister is a wiccan & shes fat as fuck now lol

It's probably true that fat people are more likely to be attracted to alternative religions- that's what our society is like.

Actually its pretty much the ORIGINAL religion although I dont think they called it that(Wiccan) back then, not really sure. This stuff pre dates Christianity and like most things non christian they villified these practices way back when Christianity was trying to get its start. Thats why if you ask most people on the street what a pagan is and the first words out of their mouth will probably be Satan Worshipper. Although I doubt there are any real true practitioners, mostly wannabes looking for a change, since the great "Christian Propaganda Machine" did a good job of wiping them out. But I suppose why you see mostly women practitioners is because alot if not all of there religion is centered around the Sacred Feminine. This is just myOriginally posted by Code_HavocIt's supposed to be an actual religion, but seems more like one of those cop-out things people take up. You're kidding, right? Do a quick straw-poll of any fat people you meet on the street, see how many are 'alternative religion'. The white christians have a serious hammer lock on the whole fat thing, guaranteed.Originally posted by Bill8I've seen some fucking smokin hot witches.

Wicca is a contemporary Pagan religion with spiritual roots in Shamanism and the earliest expressions of reverence of nature.
Among Wicca's major motifs are: reverence of the Goddess and the God; reincarnation; magick; ritual observance of the Full Moon; astronomical and agricultural phenomena; spheroid temples, created with personal power, in which rituals occur.
Not all witches are Wiccan, and not all Wiccans are witches, as witchcraft by itself is not a religion, and not all Wiccans practice magick. Please Read All Of My Posts In A Sarcastic Tone So You Get The Full Effect!!

Gerald Brosseau Gardner is the founder of this religion, starting it in the late 1930's and early 1940's, giving Wicca an age of about 65 years.Last edited by sltr; 07-23-2005, 07:40 PM.Comment

Wicca is not related historically in any way other than literary inspiration to any pagan religion. It is, in fact, a product of the 1930s and 40s, hugely influenced by the rituals of Freemasonry, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO).Comment

some people seem to believe that Gardner's coven's rites and doctrines can be traced in a virtually pure form back to the pre-Christian era. But most credible researchers don't buy this. They have found many twentieth-century influences on Gardner: Aleister Crowley; Charles Godfrey Leland, an American who wrote a book called Aradia about his encounters with the Witches of Tuscany.Originally posted by dirtydesignzEXACTLY
Good one Chase !
Even woodcraft, a movement started by the Canadian writer Ernest Thompson Seton.
While it might be that Gardner's coven may have had ancient roots, he felt free to create and adapt new rituals and prayers, much as Neopagans do today.Comment

Earth-based religions, or, more accurately, spirituality, have/has been around for eons...Wicca is just the modern day title given to a particular sect who follows pagan beliefs.
Personally, I find that a lot of people who say they are Wiccan, do it just because it is easier to give it a label that people are familiar with (although, not often comfortable with, lol). I think a lot of "Wiccan" are more general pagans.Need Hosting? Reality Check Network services me purrrfectly!

Exactly and what I said early I didnt nail down to Wicca for they guy who said I was completely incorrect, hence the line where I said I dont think they called it Wicca back then. Wicca is definitely an updated version of a very old religion or belief system. Wicca is very tied into the ancient religions observing certain ancient rituals, as well as observing certain ancient Pagan Holidays. Gardner didnt just create the religion (Wicca) up out of the blue, he compounded and modernized an already existing religion, maybe even several religions, pre-christian religion(s).Originally posted by chaseEarth-based religions, or, more accurately, spirituality, have/has been around for eons...Wicca is just the modern day title given to a particular sect who follows pagan beliefs.

Yup...I think the Wiccan beliefs are heavily drawn from the Celtic Pagans...Druids, if you will...assuming I remember correctly. It's been a while since I've shoved my nose in those books, lol.Originally posted by DarklandExactly and what I said early I didnt nail down to Wicca for they guy who said I was completely incorrect, hence the line where I said I dont think they called it Wicca back then. Of course there are modern twists given to those basic ideas..every religion does that. These are modern times and there are always modifications made to adapt to the current "climate"...even catholicism has flirted with the idea of relaxing some of their doctrines....though it won't happen in the current Pope's "reign" lol.Need Hosting? I figure it's more interesting if this wicca stuff is a modern creation. If you think of it as an "old religion" resurrected, then basically your underlying storyline is that cheesy old "back to the roots", the exact same thing that the christians are doing, but with their god replaced by an earth goddess.
But, if it's a modern creation, then it's an effort to make religion conscious, something done intentionally.
Then it becomes not some romanticized and ficticious "first religion", but a type of "final religion".
In general, the pagans are way more fun than the christians, no doubt about that.Comment

Pretty much everything surrounding christmas is of pagan derivation... the first clue might be the christmas tree. How many pine trees are in israel?Originally posted by jiggthe catholic church has "borrowed" so much from paganism.
Sunday worship, symbols and so many other things
Yule logs, mistletoe, christmas trees, hollowe'en (samhain), easter (astara), etc etc... the early christians were pretty flexible in what they'd accept so long as they could get new peeps into the fold. Pity that flexibility all too quickly faltered into dogma and the 'infalliability of the vatican'.
