How much your first house cost?

Wondering what everyone paid for their first house. I'm really thinking of getting this brand new 4 bedroom 2700 sq ft one for 230k ( asking price) in the next few weeks. Just can't make up my mind. Might just have the company build more of a custom one for me for a little bit more.

Also how old were you? I just turned 23.

Jesus, even shitty Nebraska homes are up to 230k? We really are in a bubble...j/k

Bought my first in the 90s for $285k, sold it two years ago for $550k. In California though that's basically a shack, the homes where I live now are all $1M or so, and smaller than the one you just listed in size. Damnit.

Put down payment on it when I was 23. Paid it off this month.
      Purchase cost was 71,000.00
Current value is around 240,000.00 (The price the house next door sold for three months ago, about same size but on a much smaller lot).

lol actually the prices here are about 50% more then bigger areas in the state. There is just nothing new that has been built in quite a while. With a small state college here, it keeps the prices up compared to the rest of the state. Excluding Omaha, and some parts of Lincoln. I'm in the fucking sticks clear on the western side of the state. I'm sure this house would cost a pretty penny in Cali.

In 2002 we paid $223,000Cdn for a three bedroom, three level house on a 130'x60' lot in the burbs of Vancouver. It's estimated to be worth about $290k now. I was 26 at the time.

I'm only thinking of having the same company build me one is because the family room in the basement is smaller then I would want, and the eating area is a little weird. Other then that it rocks.

not that bad of a idea. Just expect the rates to go up some in the next year. I wouldn't mind waiting to start building on the house till next spring and put down a bigger down payment.

I paid $230k for this house in 2001 at age 26. That's about half a million in bubble-money.

Geez I dont know how you people in Cali and other expensive ass places make it. Being in this biz I would never get a house where I couldnt make the payments if the bottom fell out. I almost did buy a nicer house, then I had some health problems and couldnt work for a long time and if I had bought that nicer house I would have lost it for sure. Here in central Indiana I live in a pretty decent almost crime free area, my house is 1300 sqare feet (getting ready to be 1550sqft when I attach the garage to the house and convert to a 3rd bedroom). Anyways I bought it back in 2000 when I was 19 for $66,500 and put almost $20k for a down payment. My mortgage this year is like $360 a month. I am perfectly happy in my cheap house and love having such a low payment.

I am still saving too. A condo where I live is in the 300k range, no houses here really in that range, average house where I live is 450k-500k. I prefer to buy a condo within walking distance of the beach, but I bet that would be around 400-500k for a small condo... Everything is expensive, it sucks bad.

My dream home would be a house by the beach, either Huntington or Laguna.. I know that has to be around a mil, so i don't think it's gonna happen

$300k, 85 x 210' lot, 2400sq.ft + bonus + finished basement. Huge ass garage, and I insisted on getting pvc conduit for signal wiring so I can replace the copper with fiber (or whatever the future brings). Nice big ol' deck with a nice little stream running nearby, tall old oak and maple trees in the back yard that have a canopy so thick that the ground is mossy... gonna have to thin some of that out.

They're just finishing up the drywalling and taping now. I take ownership on the 18th of august. Gotta stop by the NSLB and pick up some wine boxes to pack dishes in.

                                        $432K in 1997. 4,250 sq feet, 4/5 bedrooms 2.5 baths, monster water/mountain view. Lot is 160 x 155. Now I'm told it's worth $700K easily. And it's all paid for.

May finish the other half of the crawlspace next year. That would make the square footage about 6,000

However, I sold it for what I owed on it 10 months after moving there thanks to a divorce (house was in my name and there was no way I could afford the payment - this was back when interest rates were around 16%). I was 22 when we bought it.

Here it would be IMPOSSIBLE to loan 200K$ if you're only 23-25. It's very very rare that someone that young can earn that mutch money. It's possible if you are married and have 2 steady incomes, but alone, and this young, they'll laugh so hard and slam the door on your way out, you'll never believe it. Here, a univ graduate can loan around 100K$ with his first job (management, univ degree). Houses range from 200-500K$ here depending where you are.

Back in the 50's my father paid just 7,000 stirling for a 27-room 17th century house standing on 5 acres of grounds. My first house - I'm not sure if it counts because I bought it just to resell - cost me 800 stirling: around $1,500 at the time.

Property ownership is much better these days. Beginning in the Industrial Revolution, my family owned most of a couple of towns in northern England, although by the time I was a kid we only still owned 3 or 4 streets. And they were a millstone, all rent-controlled, we were getting about 20 cents a week on each house. It was a blessing when they were finally bought by the council for redevelopment.
