I've seen it. It happens around 2am Pacific time, daily when they kick the backups off. I'm not sure how they have this set any more (Playboy I.T. doing it now). When the backup triggers it pretty much locks down the system for about 20-minutes, and then the slave (replicated) database lags for another 20-minutes while it catches up in-synch with the master.
