Well....one of you "Amigos" caused me an inconvenience. Got past my firewall and I have been since around 7:00 AM until about an hour ago, stabilizing my computer system. Better luck next time as I did not have to reformat. To the proud actor/actors that did this just remember what goes around comes around.

I do not want to say what was done or in answer to another question say what firewall I am using. This may not be over with so I do not want to help the attacker out. Well the "Amigos" caused me more problems than I thought. I just thought I had stabilized my system. I started developing multiple blue screen crashes daily (I was using Win 98 2nd Edition). I had to reformat and I installed Win 2000 Pro (most software will work with Win 2000 Pro now). About sixteen hours spent getting everything reinstalled yesterday and still doing some tweaking today. Who ever did it to me, no xmas present from me.

This was after I was hacked. Prior to that time I had a blue screen crash maybe once or twice per month. After I was hacked I could not even reboot until I finally corrected enough of the problems to be able to reboot. I then did additional repairs and thought I had stabilized the system, but I didn't, enough files had been destroyed or altered that too many problems were occurring, thus I reformated. I am 99.9% sure it was a hack and not a virus I picked up, but my firewall logs were erased and my firewall was disabled so I can't be 100% certain. With the firewall logs having been erased and the firewall having been disabled I am convinced that it was a hack.Originally posted by FATPad

By the way, for those of you that are curious, the firewall was Zone Alarm Pro. It was disabled and would no longer function and the logs were destroyed. I have now installed Win 2000 Pro because software compatibility is not a problem any longer. I too used Win 2000 on my own personal machine when it first became available. I do not play games. I had software compatability issues, maybe you did not use the software that I was interested in using. I did not see any need to upgrade my dad's machine as everything was working well until I was hacked. Why would I fix it if it wasn't broke? I cannot be certain who hacked my computer, but I have, and am entitled to my suspicions.
