black socks I think is the standard, especially when you are wearing black shoes and dark pants. white socks will outcolor you pants and shoes.

I have 21 pairs of charcoal-grey socks. I have been buying the exact same style from Marks & Spencer for at least 30 years and I have no other socks. Each time I have to buy more I keep my fingers crossed that they haven't been discontinued, but thankfully it looks like they are going to see me out
