I think common sense will tell you that the percentage of females with DS who reproduce, are astronomically low. The point I was trying to make is that not everything is "passed down" directly from a parent. I honestly wasn't trying to bring Down Syndrome into this. I wish to god I would have left it out, now.
I was also prepared to call you a liar about your story, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe you are lumping "mental retardation" in general in with DS, and you don't know the true diagnosis of your neighbors. Males with DS are basically sterile. I think there have been one or two reported cases of a male with DS being able to reproduce, but I highly doubt either was the guy living next to you. Females also have decreased fertility and even though some can/will get preggo, there aren't an abundance of cases of babies being born to DS mothers, either. Maybe you lucked out and hit the DS reproduction lotto in your hood, lol.
