                Maybe by letting him go at that point the girl would still be alive, but that's just a guess. Hostage was killed so in my eyes the situation could be handled better. Couldn't do anything better is not an answer that will save your ass in the future when you run in to any type of problems and I don't see why it should be here the case for policemen.

                    While I think this is a horrible event, there is no one at fault other than this father.

                    The police in this situation we're not only protecting themselves, but the general public as well, and if they have to do it at the cost of 1 innocent life then I'm sure even though it doesn't sit well with them, there was no choice.
