our solo girls are making enough that they do not have to have a 9-5 job. their sites are earning more than enough for them to live off of very comfortably
but we normally will not give a girl her own site unless we believe it will make that kind of money.
every situation is different. also have to consider will the girl be on a pay-per-shoot basis or get a percentage of the revenue the site generates. and her level of involvement in the site is something to consider also.
like someone said earlier, there are many, many factors to consider.

Before you decide to delve into a paysite, you should try promoting other people's sites to get a handle on the basics of promotion.
Maybe even start your site out on an AVS that has a Platinum or Quantum or whatever they call it top level...I used ProAdult, and they took care of my payment processing, hosting, and even some traffic, plus I could post on VoyeurWeb. In general advice given on GFY is not too valuable. Actually some gems of advice are available, but there is a very bad signal to noise ratio on GFY which makes the good advice usally go un-noticed.
In general it is true that single girl sites done by the model herself, do poorly. A variety of reasons - usually the model has an unrealistic opinion of her marketability, the web site is bad, the shooting is bad, no marketing or technical expertise, etc. I know about a dozen attractive models that bombed out on that route, often pressured by greedy webmasters and photographers who got high fees to make a site that sucked.
The correct answer really is, if you have a good idea, high marketing potential (you are hot) AND you can get shoots done cheap AND you can get them edited nicely AND you can get a good webmaster to design things AND you can get a good techie to hook you up with reliable cheap hosting AND you know how to promote porn - then you have a good shot, otherwise its an uphill battle.
