I know people that go to the fricken doctor for every little thing: head & tummy aches, sunburn, mosquito bites and yadda-yadda. Breeding hypochondriacs we are.

the worse thing is when people bring in their whiny ass kids in.

they are kids, they are supposed to get sick! wow he has a headache who fucking cares, they are supposed to build up their immune system.

i cannot stand hospitals, the past 2 times i have went there is always some fat ass mothers and their whiny kids, "o he couldnt sleep" so why the hell are you are the fucking hospital?

      people are such fucking pussies.

You want to give them MORE money and power to play with?

I somewhat agree. The govt fucks everything up they get their hands on, but there are problems that need to be corrected. As far as people not making it a priority and spending their money elsewhere, I don't believe that to be true for the majority without coverage. I personally pay over $900 a month for coverage (for a family of 3), a lot of people simply cannot afford it. I feel the govt isnt doing a thing to address the skyrocketing costs, Bush wants to blame lawsuits, bullshit. Its the drug companies and hospitals charging outragous costs and getting away with it. Why are the same drugs cheaper in Canada?

I am guessing you could get higher deductibles and co-pays, or go thru a different insurer and get lower rates. Of course, you could pay more if you wanted too also.

So let me get this straight - he signed the paperwork that said he a $1Mil cap and expected them to pay more? How much did he pay in for that $1Mil worth of services he got? I bet a LOT less than $1Mil that extended his life more than if he had used the premiums to pay for his own healthcare.

It would make more sense if a cradle-to-grave system would be fair: either those that maintain a less healthy life style (smoke, obese etc) pay more, or health conscious people pay less.

I believe this is already the case. When I got my insurance, they asked height/weight, do I smoke, any health problems, etc. I believe I pay more because I am a smoker.

My bad ... I should have added, in Canada. Yes, the US does offer a more fair system (IME), and wish Canada would.

Let me school some of the uneducated in this thread...

1-) The US DOES have free health care. In fact, MILLIONS of people get free health care AND prescriptions. It's based on your income. In NY state where I live, ALL children, regardless of their parents' income can get FREE health care. Including dental. It's called Kid's Health Plus. They don't send them to crappy free clinics either, it's a doctor of their choice.

Also in NY state we have Hudson Valley Health Plus or something like that. My mom has no income, I support her financially 100%, she has osteo-arthritis and gets all her health care, dental, AND prescriptions paid for. She doesn't go to free clinics or "charity hospitals" (as someone ignorantly called them). She goes to ANY doctor she wants that accepts the insurance. Yes, it's limited to which doctors accept it, but that's just like any other insurance. Some doctors take some and not others.

2-) pr0 DID NOT ASK FOR DONATIONS

3-) The US makes health insurance very hard to get. You either have to have little to no income to have it paid for, be over 65 and get Medic-Care, and/or you have to be able to afford the premiums. In NY, Blue Cross wants $500/month for a SINGLE person policy. I don't have health insurance at this time and hope that I don't need it anytime soon.

The reason insurance is so much money in the US is not because of the government entirely, it's because of the lawsuits and people who abuse it. I have several hypocondriacs in my own family. My one aunt used up all of her insurance and they actually cancelled her for going to doctors 3 or 4 times a week. US citizens are addicted to all sorts of prescription meds. Nearly everyone takes some kind of prescription drug that these drug companies have led people to believing they need.

4-) pr0 DID NOT ASK FOR DONATIONS

5-) No country has 'free' health insurance. You pay for one way or another.

Study finds high price of services, drugs account for steep expenses

WASHINGTON - Higher prices and not lawsuits or other factors have driven up health care costs in the United States, according to a study published Tuesday.

Malpractice awards in the United States amounted to only $16 per capita in 2001, compared with $12 in Britain and $10 in Australia, the team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore found.

The same team found in 2002 that Americans pay more for prescription drugs, hospital stays and doctor visits than citizens of other industrialized countries.

The same people that are against universal health care are the same people that claim to be pro life yet have no problem with people not getting proper medical treatment in what is supposed to be the greatest country on earth. These are the same people that fight to protect unborn children yet have no problem letting them starve once they are born. Pro life my ass, the right have killed more people than any other group since the Nazis. In reality they are pro death.

You do realize that medicine is a for profit industry, as is insurance.

Well, to be fair, an "offer" doesn't really mean anything. I get offers for $100,000 personal credit cards twice a week, if I really applied I would probably be dropped down to something much less. You receive all of those offers because the insurance companies buy your name off of a list and send out an "offer" to everyone.

But yeh, insurance isn't THAT hard to get for a typical person, but for someone with pre-existing conditions it gets much more difficult depending on the condition. I have friends with no insurance that claim its too expensive yet eat out 3 nights a week. Its fine if a person would rather pay for entertainment than insurance, but to whine that insurance is "too expensive" is silly. There are solutions out there, just need to look.

I could get catastrophic insurance (higher deductible, I pay for doctor visits and 100% of prescrips until I hit my deductible, then I pay 20%) for less than $150 a month.

                                                                                        They have many many plans.

Everything in NY is more expensive. From utilities to insurance... we pay considerably more. The US (at least NY state) makes it hard to AFFORD insurance. Surely if it was in fact easier, more people would have it, no?
