I sure hope berating the father in front of his child to the point he was in tears made you feel more of a man. Trouble is, to those adults among us, your story shows you to be immature, with no clue how to speak to a child and your self-esteem must in the gutter.

The proper way to have handled it was when the child bumped into you and did not apologize and instead behaved rudely was to say "Now, now that is not the way to behave in public. You should say excuse me" when you bump into people. You would then leave it at that. Mission accomplished. If the parent came over and apologized, simply say "thank you" and walk away.
