Wow didn't see that one coming. It's just a word but at the same time I understand why it's upsetting in some contexts.
It's like, you can call your buddy a faggot, idiot, and fat bastard, because he knows you, but you wouldn't say it to a stranger. Or you can make as many derogatory jokes about your family as you want, but when somebody else does it, there potentially is a problem.
