I'm behind on the Zango story, but I did "clean out" a business computer last week used for invoices in a powder-coating shop that had it installed.

It's about biting the hand that feeds you and business ethics. If noone stands up and companies like Zango keep growing, it's maybe soon 200 million, and then it's a big deal and too late to start fighting them ! At this point, it would hurt your wallet, too.Comment

That's 2 percent if the figures are correct. It may not matter if you have no traffic or a very small amount of traffic, but, if you have a 1,000,000 unique visitors a month that's 20,000 visitors a month that are tainted.erik AT suthnet.comComment

Okay, here are the numbers according to zango...
Interestingly, It means their average customer "enjoys" zango for 100 days, and it means that they do in the neighborhood of 60-70 million installs per year.Zango has more than 20 million opt-in users and an average of 200000 new consumers opt-in every day to enjoy entertaining and useful online content
Based on what I saw for traffic (mixed link site, some TGP, some se, etc) I saw over 2%. Now, I have gotten a feeling that Zango has since stopped advertising their install on the browser line (because they know it was being targetted) so the numbers measured it I redid it today would be much lower.
Alexa says that Zango.com's reach is 1005 per million users... which would be 0.1% of the entire net. For purposes of comparision, AFF is showing 7005 per million, or about 0.8%. So if you consider AFF as having a large exposure on the net, you can pretty much be confident that zango has a pretty high exposure rate as well. (add in, sleazydream.com gets about 475 per million - so Zango is doing more than twice the level of exposure).
I am confident that around 2% of all porn surfers have Zango, and probably that many again have HAD it at some point.
I am confident in saying that there are at least another 50 spyware / scumware products out there that if they each turn maybe a half of a percent each... so that is 25% more of your surfers on the duff with crapware.
Combine that with programs shaving, traffic leaks, lost affiliate codes, confused cookies, and downright theivery, you are shockingly lucky at this point to get credit for half your traffic,
Encouraging, isn't it?Comment
