As for my camera, it's kind of embarrasing. I started in 2000 still shooting on film with a Canon EOS Elan SLR. A nice camera, but it was costing me a fortune in developing costs and caused me to have to spend hours scanning pix.
I finally upgraded to a Sony 505 (3.3 megapixel camera), which was a great camera when it came out. Personally, I hate looking at a LCD monitor instead of a viewfinder. I miss a lot of details and it's more difficult to know if you have a good focus.
Instead of upgrading my still camera, I've invested into lighting systems (on my 3rd upgrade, going on my fourth), and I purchased a couple of Canon GL1 video cameras (at $2.500 a pop), plus an HD video camera ($5k). Oh yes, and several computers, tons of software, etc.
My poor 505 is in bad need of calibration. Rather than do that I will be upgrading shortly to a new Canon still camera. I'm still torn about which one, since I have a bunch of EOS lenses that I can use if I get the relatively inexpensive XT-350 (approx. $1,000), which is considered pro-am. Canon also makes some really great pro level cameras for a few G's. I should probably invest in some lessons before making that leap though.
Honestly, I am more interested in video shooting than still photography, however I want to keep improving on both.
