It a dish served before the meal. Though it has taken a great turn in food culture.
Usually some assortments of cured meats, olives, roasted red peppers, and other finger foods. I often see marinated artichoke hearts, Prosciutto di Parma wrapped melon and or asparagus, some cheeses, maybe some basil, tomatoes, bruschetta etc.
