What is the first step in owning a porn site

Should you get a website designed first?
Should you try to get a merchant account first?
Should you try to find a host first?

If someone could step by step me that would be of big help. I would like to get into the industry.

If you know what you are doing i guess the fundamentals are:

            Content
            Domain
            Website
Affiliate Program (This can be done when you are more established)
            Unique idea/Girls
            Determination/Hard work

But like others said research, i would spend atleast a month reading everything you can about the subject, probably more depending on how large of an investment you are planning to make. I don't personally have a paysite, but this is pretty basic knowledge which is not hard to come by if you read these forums.

            Good luck.

i may be newer than new can be, but the most important thing i can think of is dont let people get in your way. there are a lot of...not very helpful people on this site, looks like positive people are here for this post, which is nice, but if you are like me and experience a jerk here and there, or more than often, dont let them bring you down. theres something for everyone, so no matter what your site or idea is, itll work if you are dedicated. dedicated with a credit card youre ready to max out, GOOD LUCK!

Depends on your site. If you are doing your own content, or buying it. Also what kinda site.

A business model would be your first step after research, and reading all you can. A bank would ask for it if you were opening a business, and the adult industry's no different. Know what you are going to sell, how you are going to market it, and so forth. After that..

First and foremost would be content. This is what your visitors, and members are paying for. So hopefully you have a unique niche, or quality content to not only get them in the door, but rebilling.

Next would be hosting. What good's content if people can't see it because you are down, or have bandwidth problems. You need a good host who is up and provides good support.

Next is the domain. You want a good domain that is search engine friendly, and something with a little flare, or pizazz.

Design. While people will agree or disagree this is crutial, you need a site that's atleast catchy, and converts. Some make money with crap sites, some have extremely well designed sites. I honestly think the main key is navigation, and ease of layout. It needs to be designed with both broadband, and dial up users in mind.

Hard work. This should prolly be higher up, but I have a handful of paysites, and will tell you that from launch, you have a lot work to get rolling at the get go. Getting on search engines, rankings, PR, and driving traffic. Doing TGP submissions, and getting your site out there. If you have some capital, you can do it a little faster in traffic, but what you really need to do is approach this trying to zero in on the most targetted, and converting traffic you can. Dumping 10,000 hits/clicks of general traffic may not convert well on a niche, or fetish site. But take the same traffic from antoher traffic source (fetish, niche) that's targetted to what you are selling, and you will get better conversions.

Unfortunately there is no sceince, but if you have a good product, and work hard, you will be making some nice coin in no time.

                              Should You Email Your Members?

                                  My 2 cents.

Top reasons businesses fail are: and most do and dont make the 5 year mark.
                                  1 ) Lack of Planning
                                  2 ) Lack of Capital
                                  3) Lack of Hard work or the Talent to do it in the first place.

I would try to stay away from partnerships if at all possible.

Keep this in mind... You are not opening a typical business. This means that
people close to you will know what you are up to. ei. friends, family, wifes, enemys. Unless you keep it totally to your self, some will not approve of it no matter how fluffy your explanation is. If you go down, you will be known
                                  as "the pornographer" Be prepared.

Also, you need an adult attorny, an accountant who will not mind asking you what happened to the sales tax on the "banymywife" content u sold. a
                                  merchant account, etc etc.

moral of the story is do your homework and remember its a biznass like no other. Best of Luck!
