I get the joke but this really shouldn't surprise anybody. Germany was for all intents and purposes effectively emasculated 61 years ago. Nowadays they're more pacifist than Sweden and in the event of a war any country bigger than Luxembourg would kick their ass without even breaking a sweat.
The Germans you're used to seeing in the movies are all dead or in old age homes now.
It's actually kinda sad in a way though no doubt the French sleep a lot better nowadays
