    LOL, I Got Blog Comment Spammed by Bondage.com!

    This is too funny, I just got hit with blog comment spam by Bondage.com. I am honored -- little fish noticed by very big fish -- but geez, fellas, don't you think you could have just bought an ad like everybody else? I'm sure you can afford it, and my rates are very reasonable. Sheesh!

    Here's the blog comment spam, which landed on an old post I made about funny/bad BDSM personals:

    bondage.com is a huge bondage/fetish/bdsm community site.. and you can get your account free.. im just passing this on..

    Note the poster (gateway) and the fact that a gateway69 has been posting on here for Bondage.com lately. Email provided with the blog spam was [email protected].

    I'm not mad, I just think it's funny that a reputable outfit like this is cheap/low enough to spam its URl in blog comments. I shook Mark Pace's hand in Phoenix and got his card, and I've exchanged friendly banter with Aiken here on GFY. I'm a bondage.com affiliate and never had any problems. So far as I know, these are all good guys and good to do business with. But blog spammers! I can't stop chortling.

    Normally I nuke spam like this from the moderation queue, but I approved this one because it tickled me so. I'll delete it in a few days I suppose.

              Heh, most people consider spamming a pretty low form of behavior. And this was hardly relevant -- it was a thread about bad bdsm personals, and Gateway didn't make any effort to contribute to the thread or tie his comment into what was being discussed.

              But I'm not saying it was wrong -- I'm saying it was funny to find out that the bondage.com folks (well, one of 'em anyway) are spammers.

                              kinda off topic but how much did/do door to door salesman make doing that? how much can you actually pawn off a bible for ? $10? $20+?

                              maybe if your bible has golden text, a shiney cover and a leather case you could get $30-$40 for it.

                                  I believe they have spammed my blog a dozen times or so . . . if they only make one spam comment I don't miond, it is when they start doing it to every entry that bothers me

Mostly I don't trade links with commercial sites, because it undercuts my advertising revenue too much, and because it's rare to find anybody who is willing and able to return traffic and page rank that compares with what my better blogs have to offer. Also, I try to keep my links very tightly focused to the subject of my blogs. Which is why, for instance, I fly a bondage.com affiliate banner on Bondage Blog but not on Spanking Blog.

                                      All my blogs have contact emails (or follow first link in .sig) -- I'm always willing to consider trades, if they make business sense.

                                                                              LOL, there's an idiot here all right, but it ain't me.

                                                                              I didn't disrespect bondage.com at all -- I just laughed at 'em a little. I have enormous respect for their operation, which is why the blog spamming hit my funny bone so hard. It was like seeing a banker on a street corner in a chicken suit.

                                                                              And with 4pics, that was honesty, not disrespect. He offered trades that didn't make business sense for me, after I told him that I was only looking for ones that did, so I explained why his didn't. He doesn't seem to have taken offense, which is good considering none was intended.

                                                                              I'll take my chances with the gaping gay ass pics -- I've got good software and great managed hosting with good tech guys, so I'm not exactly trembling in my boots.

                                                                                                                      i doubt that, forkbeards blog is a well known blog, it is linked many times by fleshbot, and by many popular adult blogs. his traffic is a gem. its nothing but quality. he wasnt disrespecting 4pics at all, i wouldnt want to trade if my blog has been up for years, and link to a site that has been up for a few weeks with no PR, he basically wants to build his PR and trade with sites with fetishes. I have bought a paid link on his site and all i can say is its nice traffic, he has top spots on google, and anyone who knows what kind of traffic he has benefits from it.

                                                                                                                                      Bondage.com has been around since 1997 and has always strived for the highest business ethics. We're seriously anti-spam in all its forms, and we're well aware of how much spam sucks (with over 300,000 users receiving email on Bondage.com, we spend a good deal of our time and resources combatting email spam on our system).

                                                                                                                                      We also offer our users blogs, and will soon be launching a nice commenting system for those blogs, so clearly we're aware of the impact of comment spam (we're writing code to prevent it right now, in fact).

                                                                                                                                      Gateway has been around this industry for years, and I think everyone who's worked with him will agree that he's a great guy. However, in this case he did get a bit carried away, and that's not how we want to promote Bondage.com.

                                                                                                                                      So, my apologies. It won't happen again.
