I've been to the scientology website. I read through it's various articles. I know only a little bit about it. But I know enough to know that it's conformist thinking.
Take a short ride to Hollywood Blvd and take the free personality test.
I did one day when I was bored waiting for a flick to start at Mann's.
After it was all over with they proceeded to tell me I was so fucked up that I needed to wait before their special book salesperson would show up....LOL..that's what it's about man...they want to sell you a series of books.

Well, like most people on GFY I only read half of what I want, and make judgements on other people. Personally, I don't care if you are a pot head or not. You seemed a tad more cooler when you were though. All this scientology talk is a bit too much for me.
I always considered you one of the elite free thinkers and now it SEEMS like you have been drawn into a way of thinking that follows a very contraversial religion.

Again. I AM JUDGING YOU and really don't know you. I just assumed you were a free thinker. Perhaps you still are. I thought one day we would hang out and have a smoke or a drink.
redshoe, im really not going to bother.
the last thing i need right now is someone telling me "youve changed" during this process.
i was reading scientology literature in highschool, im 29 - i have not touched the books in years. Recently due to tom cruise yapping about it, i dug them out... then noticed this thread.
i am not a scientologist, although i was close to being one.
i dont need the "youre not the same" shit.
yes, im a free thinker, one with addictions. opinions and addictions i dont need.

Ever put money into a collection plate or acollection box. Same fucking deal. But because Christianity has been around for 2000 years it's ok!

I think he is right... anti-depressants dosent fix things. Its like closing the eyes when a truck is heading for you.. You can't se it, but its still there
Lol! Dude it's the exact same thing just just modernized. I dont agree with either one mind you.
All religion is a product that needs to be sold.
No it's not the exact same thing.
I grew up going to various churches and not every church that takes a tithe is selling a product...no matter how YOU try to interpret it.
There are true believers out there and that's the only way they can fund their church and keep it going and you are not required to give. Many churches will give you their books *The Bible* for FREE.
I've been to churches that were so broke but would give you the clothes off their backs if they felt you needed them.
Now for scientology this is nothing but their whole religion broken down into a product. Might as well sold it as a #5 with the ability to super size it.
But until you go through their "free personality test" process don't speak about things you know nothing about.
It's a very funny process...it's supposed to be quick but it's anything but quick.
this thread makes me want to go to one of their centers and just talk shit to them and waste their time. Make my own shirt "Tom Cruise Sucks Like Scientology" or something.
not only about prozac & ridilin, but all the "legal" drugs.
as quoted by Chris Rock:
"The Goverment wants you to be hooked on some legal shit! Commercials will name a symptom till they get you: 'Are you tired? Are you lonely? THATS ME! I gotta get that pill!"
My sister was on ridilin for a couple of years & then just stopped taking it. She felt like she was another person when on it, and shes a mother and engaged, full time steady job, no problems. She didnt need ridilin, she needed to NOT be a teenager anymore. Why parents (including mine) are so quick to reach for a magic pill to cure all their ills & problems, I'll never understand.
Just like with this 2257 shit. We are acting as parents for unsupervised kids. Since when did actual PARENTING become something of the past?

FletchXXX, no worries mate. It was just my judgmental point of view. I don't know if you've changed or not. You still ignore me everytime I see you walking around the streets, so I guess nothing's really changed.
I think no more or no less of anyone here who believes or disbelieves any religion.

I dont take any kind of medication, I only drink socially and anymore quite rarely, and I quit smoking 6 months ago.
I am not a christian, a budist, jew or muslim.
I most definatly am not a scientologist. It's a cult, nothing more nor less then wearing an orange robe and banging your tambourine in an airport lobby or wearing a red robe and protecting pedofiles.
A crutch is a crutch is a crutch.
If your weak you are weak fletch, you will gravitate toward booze or drugs or religion because you need it. Just like some people need medication. To me there is no difference between selling your soul to scientology or smoking crack on a street. If you are weak and you need something to get you thru you will find something that works for you.
I read a story today of a guy who went thru scientology and was convinced to throw away his medication. He suffered from Schizophrenia and ended up killing several members of his family. Gosh just maybe he needed those drugs after all.
I dont understand how scientology can condem people for being weak when in fact their members can't do anything without approvel from their church and most are confused or terrified to do anything without that consent.
Everything in their lives is orchestrated.
I am not a big fan of psychologists and psychiatry but I do know why Scientologists hate and loathe them so much. It takes an awfully good psychologist to de program a scientologist.
as always i back myself up with SCIENTIFIC FACT. most just have opinions.
OBJECTIVE: It has been hypothesized that people who typically report experiencing negative emotions are at greater risk for disease and those who typically report positive emotions are at less risk. We tested these hypotheses for host resistance to the common cold.
METHODS: Three hundred thirty-four healthy volunteers aged 18 to 54 years were assessed for their tendency to experience positive emotions such as happy, pleased, and relaxed; and for negative emotions such as anxious, hostile, and depressed. Subsequently, they were given nasal drops containing one of two rhinoviruses and monitored in quarantine for the development of a common cold (illness in the presence of verified infection).
RESULTS: For both viruses, increased positive emotional style (PES) was associated (in a dose-response manner) with lower risk of developing a cold. This relationship was maintained after controlling for prechallenge virus-specific antibody, virus-type, age, sex, education, race, body mass, and season (adjusted relative risk comparing lowest-to-highest tertile = 2.9). Negative emotional style (NES) was not associated with colds and the association of positive style and colds was independent of negative style. Although PES was associated with lower levels of endocrine hormones and better health practices, these differences could not account for different risks for illness. In separate analyses, NES was associated with reporting more unfounded (independent of objective markers of disease) symptoms, and PES with reporting fewer.

common cold is psychosomatic? learn what a virus is
if you are against drugs/chemicals/medicines to cure people, and think they dont work, explain why the average lifespan has doubled in a relatively short time
if eating an apple makes you feel better, its not the apple that makes you feel better, its the god damn chemicals in the apple. if someone were to purify the exact chemical that made you feel good, and labelled it as a drug, and offered it to you, you wouldnt take it..

but dont worry yourself with facts and scientific study
you keep saying the same things -however, i dont see anyone objecting to the idea that "many" illnesses can be caused by the mind. everyone is aware of the connection between mind and body. you can show someone a picture and make them puke. you can show someone a picture and give them a hardon etc. what more do you need. everyone knows that stress can have negative health consequences. this is all nothing new.
besides that, you are not using "facts" to support anything. you are using the same basic "facts" that someone would use to support the truth of Islam or any other religion. you can't say "the common cold is caused by the mind" and claim it to be fact because the simple fact is that very little is known about the common cold, its cure and its cause. circumstantial and anectdotal evidence which can neither be proven or disproven does not constitute "fact". your arguments are beliefs... just as the average Jehovas Witness feels better about what he believes and defends absurd things like the notion that dinasours never existed with "scientific" arguments that they also boldy refer to as being "fact".
and none of these things change the fact that Scientology is a cult created by a science fiction author who was a diagnosed schizophrenic and con man. if it makes you feel better about yourself, thats great. but what seperates the way you feel and the way you believe from any other cult leader?... why are you more enlightened and correct than the average muslim of 1.5 billion people?
there is indeed a lot of irony in the fact that you attack organized religion and defend something like scientology.

i love how none of you are a doctor, but will dispute scientific FACT!
if you are against drugs/chemicals/medicines to cure people, and think they dont work, explain why the average lifespan has doubled in a relatively short time
i didnt say any of that, my opinion just shaked up people because i am backed by doctors across the world.
my favorite is the study of common colds and people who were not even sick claimed they were
anyway, until someone can dispute science, this isnt my argument,.. i am only agreeing with what is proven to be a fact by teams of doctors.

and someone could also post an endless list of doctors that disagree with you and the doctors above. would that change your views?

send me the article link please
btw how can you agree with one small group of doctors and completely disregard the fact that thousands of other doctors think otherwise
also, if this was so true, that many many diseases are 'all in ones head'..
then placebos would work.
I actually agree that people need to fight the use of medication whenever possible. Instead of popping a pill, drink a glass of water, have an apple, and try to create a better overall lifestyle for yourself.
I still think Tom is crazy though and it because more and more apparent after every interview. Scientology is going to destroy his life, he just won't realize it until it happens. Does anyone else find it ironic that he's the star of War of the Worlds?

you people cant stand my OPINION and thats what is fact
why do you think anyone cares about your opinion? you are not using the word "opinion" as much as you are using the word "fact".
i was questioning the fact that you continue to sprinkle the discussion with the word "fact" when you are presenting no facts. as i said, conclusions drawn from anectdotal and circumstantial evidence do not constitute "fact"
