    I'm inheriting a Chinchilla......

Anyone ever have one? Any advice. She belongs to a member of the armed forces whom has been called back for 6 months and I offered to take care of it and keep her for good.

No jokes about making a coat out of it please. I love animals!

They are super cute. You'll need that dust stuff for it to give itself a bath I believe. Best advice really is to ask the person you are getting it from about the ins and outs of ownership.

Yeah, I know about the dust baths and the multi level "home" and to keep them contained when you let them run around outside of their condo. He hasn't had her long, so I thought others would know more. I read a lot on google, I just wondered if anyone had them. They are cute as hell. She is still growing. My cat got along with a ferret, so I don't see why she wouldn't with a chinchilla. I hear they piss in litter like a cat does (or atleast one spot consistently) but they poop where ever they please like rabbit pellets, hence the need for a multi level "condo" the bottom for waste, the second for food and the third for sleeping.

If they are just like bunnies, a great deal of the poop and pee can be done in a litter pan. We've got a mongrel dwarf buns and before she became 'special needs' (doctor broke her spine) she used to go about 80% of her business in a plastic, corner litter tray. She taught herself pretty quickly.

From what I've seen of chinchillas, they also like to sleep/hang out in dark, hidden places, so a little tunnel thingie would probably be good.

my mother in law has 2, they are really cool pets. hers have totally different personalities. one is very calm, lets you pet it and just kind of goes about his business. the other is absolutely insane, he runs and jumps up the walls of the cage and springs himself to the other side and slams into the walls. he will calm down when you hold him for a while, but when he hits the floor he goes nuts again and jumps all over.

good luck.. and post some pics!
