Minnesota Company buys 23,000 domains

BDC Capital, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BDCI - News) today announced that BDC Partners, its wholly owned subsidiary, has completed the acquisition of more than 23,000 high school and college web domain names. It is believed to be one of the most comprehensive acquisitions of a single category of domain names in e-commerce history.

About 90 percent of the 22,000-plus high schools' domain names acquired by BDC Partners end in ''.com,'' with a much lower percentage ending in ''.net''. Combined, this represents about 99 percent of all U.S. high schools -- as designated by the name of the high school and the high school's mascot name.

You'd think with the $'s they invested in all of those domains they would have spent a few dollars more for a more professional looking parking page

The only thing I can imagine them doing with those domains is to offer up competition to classmates.com unless they business strategy is to market to high school kids who don't have credit cards to buy whatever it is they might plan on selling them.

true, but I think the angle they are taking is they are going to work with the schools, that might help prevent any lawsuits.

Holy shit. I never thought I'd see someone from Tallassee on gfy, lol.

I got my undergrad from Auburn and my roommate was from Florida. Her sister got into vet school and she & her husband moved to Notasulga. About 6 months before we graduated, they bought this huge, old farmhouse in Tallassee, back off hwy 14. We worked on that fucker day and night, because she just expected us to all pitch in. The single best thing about my graduation was that I got to move away and never had to see that goddamn house again.

I run into people on the 'net from Tallassee now and then because I own the domain tallassee.com and get emails because of it, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine anyone else who's spent time in Tallassee (other than the 5 minutes it takes to drive through) would appear here!

I've spent plenty of time there, lol. There were a lot of people at AU who lived there and their parents would feed us sometimes or we'd go there for the smaller holidays if we didn't have time to drive home.
