The more you love the flag, and what it represents, the more you should support the right to protest with it in any form, even burning it.
Fuck Congress - I think I'm going to go out and burn a flag tonight

Maybe not but hey, it's my right to free expression. If it pisses me off then its my right to express it.Originally posted by Lenny2Saying you're going to kick the shit out of someone who burns a flag makes you a patriot?
Lenny2, let me ask you this; does it bother you at all when you see our enemies burn the U.S. flag in protest?

Your right to free expression doesn't give you the right to physically assault someone. So stick that argument up your ass you neanderthal.Originally posted by HighOnAcidMaybe not but hey, it's my right to free expression. If it pisses me off then its my right to express it.

No, seeing citizens of another country burn our flag doesn't bother me a bit. Unfortunately for them our flag is the only one they can burn without getting arrested, they don't have the right to burn their own country's flag.
Freedom isn't easy. It means that if you want to be free to practice Christianity that you're willing to fight and die for someone else's right to practice Satanism or Witchcraft.
When you understand that you understand freedom. If you think people ought to only be free to do what you think is ok, then you may as well live under the rule of a dictator.sig too bigComment

de·moc·ra·cy ( P ) (d-mkr-s)
n. pl. de·moc·ra·cies
1. Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
2. A political or social unit that has such a government.
3. The common people, considered as the primary source of political power.
Majority rule.
4. The principles of social equality and respect for the individual within a community.
Oopsie...looks like majority rules if this gets voted in and I'm thinking it will. So you can blame all your idiotic non-voting asses for letting someone represent YOU and making YOUR decisions for you that you don't agree with! Bravo!

Nothing negative to say about the men and women in uniform? So nothing the military does could ever be wrong in your eyes and require your protest? Say, for instance, soldiers raping and torturing civilians in a war zone? Because that sort of thing happens in war and it happens a lot more if you citizens don't stand up and say negative things about it.Originally posted by AlexYou aren't thinking straight.
Yes, i value my freedom of speech but there are some things that i would never do to prove that i have it.
One would be to have anything negative to say about the men and women in uniforms that protect my right to say something negative about them, which i will not do.
And the second is disgrace the American Flag which represents the country that gives me the freedom to do so.
On a different subject, the flag is just a piece of cloth. People are what matters. Too much power is given to symbols.Comment

But where do you draw the line? Who makes these decisions? You disagree with burning the flag and I can understand that. But many out there, as we know, have different thoughts than us about freedom of speech and expression. So how can we say one thing is ok, but another is not.
You either have freedom of speech and expression..or you don't. Can't have it both ways.Selfpleasure.com for sale on auction. Closes on Tuesday March 11th at 9pm PST!!!!

Um no ASSAULT is not free expression. Look it up. Try acting like an AMERICAN and not a NAZI.Originally posted by HighOnAcidMaybe not but hey, it's my right to free expression. If it pisses me off then its my right to express it.
Nope not one bit. I'm pretty sure the company that made the flag was AMERICAN so they made moeny off of that didn't they? So they burn a flag. I'm more pissed when they fly into American buildings with planeloads of people. My penis is large enough that something like someone buring the flag doesn't make me cry like a little baby and feel the urge to kill another American.let me ask you this; does it bother you at all when you see our enemies burn the U.S. flag in protest?
It's very simple, we live in a FREE society part of the "price" of living in a FREE society is putting up with people that say and do shit you don't like or agree with. Now if you are not willing to pay that price may I suggest moving to China or N Korea or Cuba.Comment

The Boy Scouts burn flags -- it's the only way to respectfully retire them. So when a protestor gets arrested for it, it's not the BURNING that they're being arrested for. it's the thoughts in their minds at the time. In America, we shouldn't arrest people for their thoughts.

This issue is a double edged sword. What bothers me, is that anyone in the world can piss and shit on a US flag, and no one says a damn word. But if I were to do that to a flag from Iraq, All hell would break loose.PornGuy skype me pornguy_epic

What no one has mentioned is the fact that the Supreme Court ruled in 1989 that burning the flag is an act which is protected by the First Amendment right to free speech. The only way for these religious whackos to make it illegal is for congress to amend the constitution. The christian nuts are in the process of running this country so far into the ground it will take half a century to recover if we're lucky.Comment

We have a form of representative democracy, one where our constitution guarantees the rights of minorities in the face of majority rule.
That's why in the Senate....New York and California get two votes.....and South Dakota and Montana get two votes.
It's why it takes a "super majority" of 2/3 of each house of congress in addition to 3/4 of the state legislatures to amend the constitution to change the Bill of Rights.
Also, in our 200+ year history, the only constitutional amendments to pass were ones that enumerated additional rights to individuals. There has never been an amendment to the constitution that took rights away from individuals.
I think it will stay that way.sig too bigComment
