APN will not be purchasing .xxx equivalents of its domains. Who is with us?

Unless we're eventually required to by law, APN will not purchase the .xxx equivalent of any of our sites or our affiliate program.

The quickest way to fend off this attack is by using our wallets. We'll see how much a company with a burn rate of $3,000,000 a year is willing to continue operations when they only get a handful of registrations. Want to stop the forced migration to .xxx? Then don't buy one!

Am I being too idealistic? Perhaps. Some of you will go and register .xxx domains, thinking you've struck gold. Of course, you'll soon find those domains to be useless, as search engines, colleges, companies, and parents effectively block 99% of your traffic. Surfers will have as much incentive to type in "domain.xxx" as they will "domain.biz" or "domain.info" (which aren't blocked). ICM may get a few sales the first year, but once those domain owners figure it out, they won't renew.

There is absolutely no reason to register your .xxx domains! You won't get traffic from it. No one else will get traffic from it.

Of course, anyone trying to register/cybersquat our domains for commercial gain will be met with swift legal action. We have very specific and non-generic site names which we will succesfully prevent any one from using due to our trademark rights on those names. I will also hit you extra hard because you gave ICM money. No cease and desist letter, just a very very expensive lawsuit. Consider that computer you're typing on property of APN.

So who here will share in our stand? Or are you going to register your .xxx domains and contribute to what will become the downfall of this industry?

                Philip.....Excellent!

SMASHBUCKS.COM ...SUPPORTS THIS 200% and will not buy a single fucking .XXX shit ball domain.

I could not agree with you more, both Joe and I have made a vow not to put one single penny that direction, hopefuly everyone else will do the same.

This deal is a very bad one, you will soon seen just how bad it is by the group that will uncover and expose all the "jack off's" that are behind this. There real motivation and the way they are selling this "sack o shit" .XXX

                FUCK .XXX

One might be inclined to think so, but with 100% filtering capability, a one word domain would be as valuable as a 100 word domain. Or even a one letter domain. Or do you think Google is going to stick you at the top because you have sex.xxx? Think again.

I am with you on this one Phil. There is no way that anybody is goign to see any significant amount of traffic on a .xxx site. The last time i looked and typed something like "interracial" into my browser it did not default to .xxx it defaulted to .com. Every new surfer and even some old ones still type straight into the browser with out the .com. It will be about as useful to our industry as the V-chip is to the television industry. It is only and idea someone drummed up to make themselves a quick little profit.

A futile fight perhaps, but at least there will be no confusion as to our position when shit meets fan. What's ironic is the "pre-register" .xxx banner I'm seeing at the top of this reply page. Pathetic.

Noble but this is the adult business - same people who spam million and offer 30 minute trials, hidden recurring billing, fuck over the talent and the surfer alike and generally make assholes of themselves.

There will be a run on adult xxx and all the good ones will be snapped up quickly and probably resold at progressively higher prices.

What happens then remains to be seen. My understanding is the with current procedures there is nothing to stop anyone from buying adult.xxx, sex.xxx, blowjobs.xxx , etc. they are not trademarks like "ibm" or whatever.

Also I doubt google will penalize .xxx - they make a shitload on xxx adwords and will be at the feeding trough like everybody else. Meaning, that 1 year later if you type "blowjobs" in google don't be surprised if "blowjobs.xxx" comes up in the free search results.

And I do not believe that it will hurt our business AT ALL - since I expect that sites on .xxx are going to be filtered from every ISP in America and most across the world within the first few weeks of it's existence.
That is pure absurdity. Few isps would filter .xxx - since they would loose most customers, the majority of which joined to surf porn. Also, no respectable isp in America filters content, do you live in China? Can you imagine the backlast if comcast started doing that.

Corp firewalls - sure. We already run adult content filters in our brick and mortar offices, just like many corporations. Currently maybe 75% of porn websites are blocked in the fortune 500 officeplace anyway, no big deal.

What you people do not udnerstand is that if this version of .xxx goes through it is built to only coralle adult into .xxx.

                                                Ya wont have a choice.
The very monies for each domain purchase will go to groups that's interests are in censoring adult entertainment out of the mainstream and into .xxx.

Make no mistakes if it goes through, ya wont have a choice.

I have proposed a couple things that could change that but no one is listening.

And I applaud him to have the courage of his convictions than just saying "Oh well I don't to lose money" and puss out like most everyone else. And these same pussies wil also be bitching when we continue to get law after law that makes it harder and harder to do business because very few have the balls to lose some $$$ and stand by their convictions.

SE wise, I see no value in getting domain.xxx versus domain.com or domain.TLD. I do wonder if the SE's will put some kind of penalty on other TLD's should they classify the domain as porn oriented. I doubt such a penalty would be enabled, but its one of those things to consider, just like Visa/MC might one day force .xxx registrations to process CC's. But otherwise, there is no difference from an SEO perspective.

Few isps would filter .xxx - since they would loose most customers, the majority of which joined to surf porn. Also, no respectable isp in America filters content, do you live in China? Can you imagine the backlast if comcast started doing that.

It's fact that though many people use thenet for thing other than porn it's mainly the porn that makes it worth the $40 or more per month cost. If porn is made to go to .XXX then .XXX is banned by my ISDP then I will go with another compmay PERIOD and so will MILLIONS of others. IF no compmay will allow adult content then fuck it I'll just just dial-up at $10 amonth. I not paying $40 a month just to see scores on ESPN.com and do online banking and dial-up is plenty fast for those activities.

It would have been easy for us to come to AVN and say give us your subscriber list and when people come, you say he's one of ours and we give you $5 for it. But that's exactly the kind of deal we tried to keep away from because we don't want people to think we're buying our supporters.

                                                                                    There is no deal.

We haven't launched that.

                                                                                    >It puts whoever is responsible for authentication in a very advantageous position.

Some people may want to be authenticated [in this way], and some people won't. If people don't authenticate that way, they're going to have to probably pay us a small fee. They'll go through a manual authentication where we simply call them and they'll say I'm in the business, these are some of my sites or no, I'm not in the business, but I want to start. In that case, we make a note of that, let them start the site and if [it's not adult] we take it down. It's for the community. Cybersquatters and speculators are not allowed.

So given that, doesn't seem to be a big reason to rush in and grab your .xxx when the only purpose to do so, is to get your .xxx domain immediatey blocked by all filtering software that put in the .xxx patch
