In regards to doing shit: What has the US done recently that the excelled at?
Oppression: Was not talking about the war, they do not live within the borders. We can leave that off the table. I am speaking of general oppression of our own people with minorities many of which are becoming majorities soon (non whites). You covered most of it yourself. No one has to come out and run on a platform in regards to it for it not to be true.
Freedom of the press: How about the sites that go offline due to politics and threat of jail time? We can leave off the table that to much of the media is owned by just a few companies as well.
Though if we do have freedom of speech, why would I need to be put in a special zone in order to protest at a speech, one very very far away in a fenced area?
Why are more and more debates and rallies invite only?
Medical: If you can afford insurance which many can not it somewhat works. If you are near dirt poor you are also in the clear, more so than those that can afford it actually. Now if you are somewhere in the middle you are in essence fucked.
AIDS: Check the infection numbers in poor ethnic regions of the US. Places with either a high prison turn over ratio or bad drug usage combined with a lack of desirable males. Tell me why we can not have needle exchange programs in these areas? Why do we not have condoms in prison?
Simple fact the rate of infection among poor women in America and specially African American women is insanely high in comparison to white people in general.

Lobbyist: Never to the level it is at today.
Poverty: I know my wording was wrong on this one and will take the hit. Even with adjustments for inflation and the like, the majority is above the poverty line if you go by census reports. Though they ignore areas under 65k people. Regardless some 40+ million live below the poverty line.
School system: as a whole typically fucked. Yes a generalization, yet the majority of people attend them.
Standards being lowered: School testing, admittance guidelines, hell even the Military has lowered their standards.
Small ruling class: A number of corporations and groups get to decide nearly everything. Back to the lobbyist.
Prison system: Just because it works against the rich on occasion does it mean it is not biased?
