Donny (and Chrissy, really) has gone down a road looking for redemption... more an indication of their lack of comfort or contentment with their current life situation, and really little to do with porn per se. Porn is just the public and obvious part of much more complicated things.
Donny is really sounding like someone who "had it all" and still realized that he was an out of shape and lonely 30 something with no future except more of the same. He likely looked around, saw "everything" and realized that none of it made him happy.
His family past (father as a preacher) is a perfect trigger onto christianity as a sort of salvation. I am sure that he has already met people through his location church / place of worship that make him feel whole and wanted, even though they too are often nothing more than Donny + 2 years or whatever.
If Donny finds his inner peace, I am happy for him. However, I think what he will find in the end is regrets... the feeling that he all threw it away, lost it all in a haze of unfocused frustrations and disappointments in himself.
God isn't an ANSWER in of itself. If you got with God, he is your companion and your guide, not your enslaver or punisher. You don't have to lose everything and stop being who you are to be "with god". Donny stopped what he was going because he didn't like who he was. He is blaming God for his internal desire to just walk away.
Donny, news flash: God knows when you are lying, even if you are just lying to yourself. Get square with yourself otherwise your conversion will never be complete, and then you will just end up a poor schmuck living on the street with a bible and a really bitching shopping cart.
