Quick Way To Convert Vob To Wmv

    Hi guys.

Whoever Converts vob files into wmv, I need your help. I'm trying to find the best program to do this in batches and is super fast. How can I also speed up this laborious process? More RAM? More Processor? So, whatever programs you can recommend will be great.

Also, what are the best specs to encode into windows media format? Such as bitrate? Screen size, etc...

    Thanks

    You won't love my answer

I do this all the time, and I'll describe what I think is the absolute highest quality (and most efficient) way to do this. To do EXACTLY what you need, you need 3 things:

    1) A program called DVD2AVI (free)
    2) A program called VFAPI (free)
    3) A program called Cleaner XL ($400)

You MUST read this http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/DVD2AVI.htm first.

This will teach you how to use DVD2AVI and VFAPI to get a fake avi file that you can use in Cleaner. You must then use the multiple source file option (that is audio and video separated) in Cleaner to get you to the wmv file.

Yes, you can use Virtual Dub to take the place of Cleaner to get OTHER compression outputs, say Divx or mpeg, but to my knowledge, Virtual Dub will NOT allow you to output a wmv file. There may be a hack out there somewhere...

But let's address another dimension of your question and that is workflow. Cleaner XL will allow you to que up multiple jobs and file destinations, etc. It's a video encoders dream. You can let the motherfucker run all night and it will encode your list of file/jobs. Worth the $400 if you're a pro.

I've never had a problem with audio sync using this method. Audio sync is usually the Achille's heel of the more jerry-rigged solutions out there.

Post back if you get lost.

I do not work for Cleaner XL And there's other compression suites out there that will get you to wmv, but Cleaner has really comprehensive work flow options.

    Beware of copyright issues, man....

      one other thing

I'm going to bed. But I'll address compression settings later depending on how far you get with what I posted. Perhaps someone will post a better solution for you in the mean time, anyways.

        paying $400

I'd like to get something for a little less. Ripping the dvd is the easy part, getting it to the vob file no problem. What I have problems with is encoding into WMV file. I have a variety of programs but they are all slow and don't have the batch stuff I'm looking for.

Since you've had so much experience encoding, can we talk sometime on ICQ? I forgot my number but if you have one, then you can save me after I add you.

        Thanks...

          Wmv

does Windows Media Encoder convert .vob files into Windows Media (WMV)? Suitable enough for streaming on the net to various customer connections?

Windows Media Encoder worked fine for me to do that, also the batch encoder did as well. I did have to get the plugin? for vob files to be played in WME though. I forgot who made it but a google search should do it. It was cheap and made things much easier since all I had to do was cut the vob's and batch encode.
