does someone have a link to a site that explains (in cliffnotes version) what the new 2257 regulations require websites to do? I don't want the original document, just a breakdown of what it is requiring us to do. thanks in advance.

If you're too lazy to read the regs then get the fuck out of the biz.
If you want someone to make you cliff notes there are plenty of first amendment attorneys who can do that, they charge around $300/hr.sig too bigComment

Before I found this thread I tried starting my own version. All I got was the same set of idiots posting their useless drivel.Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote: "Every man has reminiscences which he would not tell to everyone but only his friends. He has other matters in his mind which he would not reveal even to his friends, but only to himself, and that in secret. But there are other things which a man is afraid to tell even to himself, and every decent man has a number of such things stored away in his mind."

you realize that not having your shit together for 2257 compliance is a felony that can net you up to 5 years in a federal pen for each infraction? this is not a time to use cliff's notes.Originally posted by wimpyBefore I found this thread I tried starting my own version. Everybody bring it down a fucking notch. Cliffnotes (i.e. PLAIN ENGLISH) would be a big help to many people. There's nothing wrong with cliffnotes if they are right.Comment

Yes, I realize that. I also realize that if you ask 3 lawyers you'll get 3 different opinions of what you need to do. I'd rather not pay money to those bloodsuckers.Originally posted by dopemanyou realize that not having your shit together for 2257 compliance is a felony that can net you up to 5 years in a federal pen for each infraction? this is not a time to use cliff's notes.
Instead, I am reading the regs and trying to make sense of them. I'm also trying to get other webmasters to participate in that discussion, in the hope that a reasonable concensus can be reached.
If you don't want to participate that's fine, don't. But don't piss on the thread. If you don't want to participate, then FUCK OFF.Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote: "Every man has reminiscences which he would not tell to everyone but only his friends. are you serious? "telling you what to do" - "the government already does that" - sorry buddy, but you are in for a very short business carreer and a very long relationship with a cellmate.
we live in a world with laws. break them and you go to jail. you dont have to agree with them for them to be valid. ignorance of the law is no excuse and knowing that simple truth, i can tell you that you already bear a massive handicap.
i wish you lotsa luck dumbass!

But a thought came across my mind. They change the law and have to give a consultation period. They then change it again and just say that's it?
Why no consultation for the changes, some of which they though up themselves. Such as;
AndPermanent Resident Card (commonly known as a ``Green Card''), or other employment authorization document issued by the United States,
I don't think either of those changes were because of comments.identification issued by a State or the District of Columbia; or, a foreign government-issued equivalent of any of the documents listed above when both the person who is the subject of the picture identification card and the producer maintaining the required records are located outside the United States.Comment

You think they will lock legitimate webmasters up over 2257?... there are already millions of sites out there that don't comply with the current regulations, well over half in fact. The only people that have been prosecuted are people peddling CP.Originally posted by Pleasurepaysare you serious? Alot of the people in this industry don't realize they're breaking obscenity laws in their own states... You think you know so much? Post a list of your adult web sites and I guarentee you have some already breaking the current laws, we all do... how many people talking shit in this thread know the regulations regarding how your 2257 compliance and producers contact info is displayed on your sites? Font size in relation to the font on the rest of the page, etc... It's all in the existing regulations, how many people have bothered to read it in it's entirety on the DOJ site?
He asked a perfectly valid question... Instead of being professional and trying to help, you decide to take the school yard bully mentality to try and sound important on an internet message board by putting him down. It's sad.
Who's the better businessman? I'd say it's the guy asking questions and trying to learn, not the guy that comes up with smartass comments to try and make himself sound important.Comment

I seem to have seen a free software program at one of the boards that helps people understand, setup and record their documentation.
It is Excel based, has a list of manditory data fields, and is pretty useful.
Built in image viewer as well to switch between reading the photo information and inputting the information into the database.
Now.. where did I see that??
Maybe do a search?
But you really do need to understand the reg.
I mean, if you drive, you want to know what a one way street is, right?Comment

In a normal world I would agree, but this is BushWorld. They have an agenda to shut down porn, and there is a good chance that this is how they'll do it.Originally posted by stev0You think they will lock legitimate webmasters up over 2257?... there are already millions of sites out there that don't comply with the current regulations, well over half in fact. It's also very possible that the lawyers who are salivating over this are making it into a big deal when it's not. Dunno, but I don't want to find out the hard way.

I don't think there are any "cliff notes" for this around.. and I doubt there will be until there's some agreement on the major points.. So all you can do is read the regs and figure it out yourself... Or have your lawyer do it...Comment

Fairly plain English version of 2257:

the better businessman is the person who takes this shit seriously and has his business in order... not the idiot asking for cliff notes on GFY. Bush has made it clear that his government is coming after porn. 2257 is the first step in giving them ammo to start prosecuting. if you think the idea of safety in numbers is a sound legal strategy... thats your problem. you will be admired by sheep and wildebeasts everywhere.Originally posted by stev0You think they will lock legitimate webmasters up over 2257?... there are already millions of sites out there that don't comply with the current regulations, well over half in fact. the fact that there are many idiots in the USA ignorant of state and local obscenity laws and how many people are or are not in compliance and how many people have and have not been arrested has nothing to do with fully understanding the law and making sure you are in compliance.
if you think its a smart idea to ask stupid questions on GFY about complex legal matters when you already know that you are asking a bunch of retarded idiots that would be flipping burgers if HTML was only a little bit harder to learn... then i would say the problem is with you and him... not me.
