    Fuck you MAXTOR and your POS drives - I'm RMA'ing 3 200GB drives today :(

    Thanks for costing me countless hours of ripping video so i can store it on your drives which fail after a couple of months of usage,

    I used to think your drives were good but i was wrong


    From now on its only Seagate drives for me... i rather spend a little more on the drive and know it isnt going to die in a few months.

              yup, i loaded them up with ripped DVD content..left them in the machine and BAMN...dead...I wasnt even running the drives hard either

                                      I had a Maxtor with a site I was working on from my laptop. I had the one and only copy on the Maxtor drive. I took it to our office, hooked it up to my main mahcine there, and it was dead. Nothing. Two weeks worth of work completely lost. I'll never use Maxtor again. The drive was only a month or so old.
                                      SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

                                                              I had one that I thought went bad, moved the firewire plug to a different slot and it worked again.(Just putting it out there in case you haven't tried it)

                                                              Sounds like a pain with that much data :/

                                                                          these drives are ATA133 (IDE) drives which are internally stored...The problem with these drives (or so i think) is that they run extremely hot and when you pack 4 of them into a machine i guess it becomes too much..

                                                                          Very strange since my computer room a 10,000BTU AC firing on the computers to keep them cool

                                                                              I've have maxtors that are years old and still working great. Same with any drive really. I've had to RMA more WD's than anything else. Of course all manufactures have bad drives occasionally

                                                                                      I have 4 120GB seagate drives which are a year or two old and run perfectly.. they've even taken a lot of punishment as i use them to encode content off of...im thinking i'll stick to seagate

                                                                                          check your power supply, i went through 5 maxtor 160 gigs in a year and it ended up being a shitty power supply.

                                                                                                                      unless you have a nice server grade case you should never have 4 drives in 1 machine 99% of cases cant handle it.

                                                                                                                      its your fault as much as maxtor's that you have dead drives.

Bought a new one and tried to install windows on it. Froze again. Took it in and it was the controller card on the motherboard. So a new motherboard later everything is fine!

                                                                                                                                              when you sandwich them together like that any drive will fuck up. i suggest you get a nice full tower with a shit load of bays and use harddrive coolers. trust me that will save you money.

                                                                                                                                                      we use a 35k btu at the office our office is roughly 20' x 20' 3 work stations and 3 people all the time
