US Citizens living OUTSIDE the US: Where do you live & what kind of taxes do you pay?

Just wondering which other countries US Citizens have moved to or stay in for extended periods of time. How does your income tax work? I'm not looking for a tax haven, but I'm curious how it works with dual citizenship etc etc.

If you are out of the US and earning foreign income for 360 something days (forget the exact number) you can get an $80k exemption on your taxes. Plus you can still have all your deductions. You can get exact details on the IRS web site.

The trick is to not get double taxed by the US and the country you are living in. Your best to bank in one country and live in another. For example if your business is in Panama, as long as you do not do business IN Panama you do not pay taxes to them. You just pay to the US. Bank in Panama, live somewhere else... that sort of thing.

Of course there are other slippery ways to reduce your tax burden...

I live in the UK...I am in the process of getting my dual citizenship but at the moment I have all the rights anyway through perm residency (through my marriage). I have to pay US and UK taxes and it isn't nice but I do get free health care from it.

this is true but it was easier to say than having to explain socialized healthcare

Errrr... you have public health in the USA too (Medicaid/Medicare)... where do you think that money comes from?

The difference in countries like England, Canada and Australia is that public health care is available to ALL citizens.
