They are designed to go for the neck. Their jaws lock once latched on. Only way off, bite through or get knocked out cold to let themuscles relax enough for the bone to pop and unhook..
This isn't true. They have strong jaw muscles but they do not lock shut that is a myth.
The plain and simple fact is , you cant extrapolate a news report into "standard practise" with dogs or with people or with anything.. otherwise everyone is a sick murdering rapist..
The parents shoud be shot. THAT i agree. The dog should also be shot... THAT i agree.
Shoot every pit bull because of what a few did ? THAT i don't agree because its stupid.
Shoot every mother because of what a few did ?
Shoot every black man because of what a few did ?
Or maybe we should examine each case individually and make judgements on them as such , not as a whole..
Like gee , maybe its the environment they are raised in ?? whooda thunk eh..
i currently have two pitbulls myself and the most important thing about the breed is to get them used to being around people, other dogs, and children. they are very protective and loyal to the owner. they are definitely not to be kept inside and apartment, let alone 2 of them.
Dog owners always say, "oh, he is is really friendly...he won't hurt you."
They are full of shit. All dogs are potentially crazy. When their owners say this, they are really telling you to be careful.
It's mostly bad dog owners ... pit bulls can be really good dogs if you know what you are doing with them...

Pit Bull and Pit-bull-type dogs (21%), Mixed breed dogs (16%),
Yeah notice pitbull and pit-bull type dogs? since when can you merge all terrier or mastif breeds into the pitbull just to boost their percentage of fatal attacks?
I'm still interested in seeing where the Pomeranian is listed as a dangerous breed...up there with the pitbull.
I'm interested in seeing where i said that ?? LOL
What i said was "pomeranians are also known as a "dangerous" breed, and have been involved in several deaths.." nothing about any comparison to pit bulls
man, even a TINY amount of research shows that locking jaws and killer pit bulls are a myth. Almost every time an attack like this happens you find out that the innocent sweet attacked owners were raising Pits for sale (ignorant breeders/dog fighters) or the fucking Pit was locked in a closet for 20 hours daily for 10 years. Pits are less likely to bite that German Shepards, Akitas and several other breeds of dogs known to have problems with people.
Everybody just jump on DarkJedi's bandwagon here, he's definitely the voice of reason and intelligence lol...
There's a difference...human beings are supposed to be rational thinking beings who we hold responsible for their actions.
An animal is a being we don't expect to be rational they are driven by the most basic instincts in life.
LOL your making your argument even sadder...
Humas are "rational" therefor we murder people in RECORD numbers ??
Dogs are "irrational" therefore they only kill a few people each year ??
Im missing your point ? we should ban irrational things that kill a few people a year but its ok for "rational" people to kill countless people every day ???
So if you shot every black man you would have THOUSAND fewer deaths, if you shot every pit bull you would have a couple every year.. hmmmm sounds like we should shoot all black people. save lives..
There was a guy whose kid got bit by a neighbor's dog, and Animal Control wouldn't do anything about it, so he called the news station and they weren't interested. He called a different station and told them it was a Pit Bull (which it wasn't) and they send a photographer along with the journalist to make sure they get good pics of the slavering killer dog.

God for such a smart guy you're really taking the ignorant approach...seriously.
An animal is an animal is an animal. No matter how much training you give it...now matter how much love you get it it will always revert to it's core being an animal. Even the sweetest dog I've ever owned has on occassion growled or snapped at me when I tried to take away something it shouldn't be chewing on or eating.
Or when a female had pups lash out when we the owners of many years tried to touch one.
No rational thinking process involved...just reverting to basic animal instiinct.
Now if a human does this...reverts to animal instinct what do we do? We put it down or lock it up.
But we can't just go around and locking up potential perpetrators...and no we're not going to do that with dogs either.
But any sensible person would, should realise that if you have children take into consideration what kind of animals he/she will be around.
Sure Pippy the Pomeranian might bite their nose, or nip their ankles and if that had been the type of dog in this case..the mother could have easily pulled it off of her 12 year old son...she wouldn't be burying him.
But when you start owning and breeding animals who are much stronger than you, you open yourself up to these dangers.
I don't care how much control you think you have over an animal...LOL
I have worked with animal handlers in Hollywood...and these guys raise tigers, mountain lions and lions from when they were cubs..but they still walk around with them on huge chains and baseball bats *to be used like a rolled newspaper* to swat them on the nose...seriously.
During one scene on a puma commercial the mountain lion did not follow the buzzer cues but instead ran toward myself and the director/director of photography where we were behind the camera.
There were three trainers involved...the one to protect us yelled run...and then he jumped in and smacked this thing right on the nose....it just stopped shook it's head and then went about it's business...they put it back in it's cage.
Animals can take a lot of punishment when enraged, or acting out..and they are much stronger than us...so with that in mind..I have a busy day...if you choose to have such potentially dangerous beasts around your children expect that the worst thing can happen.
God for such a smart guy you're really taking the ignorant approach...seriously.

I totally agree with almost everything you just said
But mainly it boils down to what you explained above "environment" and the mere fact they are dogs.
Small children shouldn't be around "dogs" period. It has nothing to do with what breed just as with humans.. as you pointed out they are animals
Any animal is potentially dangerous. Pits are currently the most mishandled beast alive, way too many are in the hands of people who want to make them 'tough' and mean. They're already tough, they don't need aggression on top of it, but if you treat them badly enough you can definitely bring out aggression in them just like you can any other dog.
Pre WWII Pits were the most popular breed of dog, except they were usually called Terriers rather than Pit Bulls. Petey from Our Gang was a Pit. They didn't develop this horrible rep until they got popular with gang bangers and there were suddenly 5 million loose pits in every hood looking for something to eat. Every other redneck and gangsta thinks they're Pit Bull breeders and turns them out by the dozen then let's them out on the street once they lose a fight or they go to jail.
Pits by inclination are very VERY people friendly, more so than most large breeds. Like any other large breed, they're very dangerous when mistreated. I believe a person should have to be licensed to own any large breed dog, just like I believe a person should have to be licensed to have a kid. Many people just don't have the intelligence and necessary personal development to have that kind of responsibility.
God for such a smart guy you're really taking the ignorant approach...seriously.
.
The "ignorant approach" im assuming is referring to the fact i was using black people as a comparison..
And it may be ignorant, but it made you realise that "pit bulls" have nothing more inherently dangerous than any other dog. They are animals thus will be unpredictable.
A "big" unpredictable animal is much more dangerous than a "small" unpredictable animal.
"Children should not be around unpredictable animals period".. i think that statement more correctly sums up the feelings after reading the original article darkjedi posted than " Pitbulls should be shot on sight"
I owned 2 Rotties for over 12 years, and they WERE sweethearts...
HOWEVER, knowing that they were large powerful animals, and simply THAT, 'animals'....I would not leave them unattended around my kid...
An interesting side note is that his grandfather's dog (a little black pomeranian looking dog) actually snipped at & bit him once...small scratch really...and therein is the difference, large dogs can do massive damage, little dogs, not as easy to maul someone, even a child can potentially fight off a small dog.
Bottom line, leaving kids unattended around other kids, or animals, or pools, or streets, or in kitchens, around guns, etc etc etc...is a bad idea!
As much as I loved my 2 Rotts, and miss them more than I thought possible... I would never say that I could have trusted them 100%, there is no such thing as 100% with animals or people...
RIP to the kid that started this thread topic, that's a horrible way to go for anyone

on your fifth time playing maybe... regardless the fact of the matter is most times people assume it's a pit bull and it ends up being a mix or an entirely different breed.
Fuck the haters. I have a pit she's NEVER attacked a child. In fact she's very carefull around kids. I have my son around her since he was 3, he's 10 now. Hell she'd attack me before him. And she would never do that. Actually very cautious around kids. But no like a responsible dog owner I do not let small kids play with her on their own just as I wouldn't if I own any other large breed of dog.
I remember as a kid in the 70's the Doberman was the "killer dog" we had to be aware of. We were told to stay away from people's house if they had a Doberman because it could jump 8 feet over the fence and rip you to shreds if you came to close.
I never never been bit by a Pit Bull. I have been bit a by a neighbors German Sheppard that came into MY yard and an attack that was unprovoked. This was 13 years ago and I'm still leary of that breed. So let's ban German Sheppards. When I was 9 I was bit by my cousin's Chihuahua also unprovoked. And I can't stand that breed either.
Pit Bulls have suffered greatly (as have many other breeds) from many generations of inter-breeding, leading to skull compression and abnormal brain development. Pit bulls have teh killer instinct. If you expose your throat to them, there's a good chance they'll go for it, even if they've been hand raised from birth. And once they get their first taste of blood, they're much more likely to be aggressive with future targets. Mix this with the unchecked desire of hordes of wiggers bound and determined to own a Pit Bull Terrier to match their new Escalade with spinners, and you have recipe for disaster -- made with the blood of innocent children who happen to be foolish enough to pet one of these transmogrified abominations.
I don't see why pit bulls aren't banned for the same reason that other large, potentially dangerous animals are. You should require a special license to own one, the same way you would need one to own a tiger or other exotic beast.
If a neighbor had a pit bull, I'd arrange for it to have an accident. To hell with animal cruelty laws.
You sir, are a complete idiot! This is why when a pitbull farts it makes the 6pm news... Jackasses that know nothing about what they speak! How about an "aggressive dog" law instead of being a breed specific moron...
Oh BTW just put my neck in my 90# 's mouth and all I got was a bath you can train a fucking rat to be aggressive, key word here is "TRAIN". But I know I only own them for my ego right? Actually I wish I had the room to help all the APBT's that need it due to moronic claims like yours!!
My ex was a kennel attendant for 9 years and in all that time the worst breed for biters was a cocker spaniel! Buy a clue please! Oh and if you were my neighbor you and Sam Colt would have spoke long ago!
