Why can?t we use easy to read sentences?

    Why can?t we use easy to read sentences?

    I simply can't understand why we don?t use simple language; aside from legal documents. The press releases I come across sometimes are so difficult to read, that I have to read them two or three times before I understand them completely.

    The first sentence in the press release I just read is 55 words long.

    Why can?t we use simple language?

    What is the point of these long, brain busting pieces of text?



    PS: I know my writing isn?t the best? but I try.

      Because comma's, semi colons, and colon's rule, specially for some of us who love to ramble on and on and on.

          Rambling on seems to be like defying the purpose of a press release. Isn?t a press release there as a marketing/information tool?

              But, but...Ok I conceed what you have said is true. Unless of course it is a press release that could have legal recourse.

                  apparalently tabloid newpapers are written in such a way that a 13yr should be able to understand every word!!

                      Isn't that the best way to deliver information? Easy to digest?

                      As a shareholder for example, I am (myself) more concerned with what effect the "action" may have on the stock, as opposed to understanding what the company is trying to communicate.
