By the time I qualified as a chartered accountant I decided I hated the work and convinced some friends to let me run a couple of nightclubs for them. That didn't last long because the owners were put away for armed robbery, but it led to the opportunity to open my own first business.
Which did rather well. I sold part of it in 1977 and the rest in 1980 (that's now part of Deutsche Post), then I went to Israel on vacation and stayed there for 10 years. I started a publishing house, a couple of book/music stores and I also did a lot of writing for newspapers and magazines.
When I returned to the UK at 40 years old, I intended to take it easy for a while. But I computerized a couple of offices for friends of mine and the next thing I was heading up IT projects for some big companies. One of my clients was Disney TV, which seems a little ironic now.
Everything went pear-shaped in late '96 when I ended up in a cardiac unit. I went back to work afterwards, but stress and heart problems don't mix, so I "retired". After a month I was climbing the walls and since I was still getting checks from a couple of AVS sites I had put up a year or so earlier to teach myself HTML, I decided to play around with porn for a while...Comment
