Sound ethics
are good business sense. But something doesn't become an ethical consideration merely because it isn't illegal.
We all
know what pisses off our customers. We all
know that pissing off customers is going to cost us money in the long-term. Many believe that cost will exceed any short-term profit, so their opposition to spam, spyware, adware and all the rest, has nothing at all to do with ethics.
