Clean up the audio. Have him buy a mic kit. They're not that expensive and the quality alone will be lot better. The opening scenes are hard to hear.

Also, the writing and the directing credits are always the last credits in the opening credit sequence. Writing being 2nd to last and directing being the last.

Have him check the levels of the sound as well, the sound effects of the screeching snow on the monitor is pretty loud while the rest of the film is soft. Oh, also... have him do like a blur or a cross fade, or maybe fuck with the colors a bit to show it was a dream sequence. I didn't realize it was a dream until you see the demon guys and then it was obvious and since the payoff of the effect happened shortly after I think it could have still been cool to see in like a blueish type lighting.

Also have him color balance a little, most simple editing programs can do that.

The scene in the forrest towrds the end could also have been creepier if it were more contrasty. Again an easy fix in post production.

Oh also.. towards the end of the eating scene we see the black demon eating the guys arm. That can look cool on a quick closeup and really have the actor slow it down. Make it look like the flesh is chewy and hard to tear through. Also, if the victim really screams and yells it would sell the effect as more traumatic. Having him sleep thru it is creepy, but having him be terrified helps the audience be terrified.

Have your nephew get some liquid latex and pour it onto a NON-POURUS surface. Like a formica counter top of something similar. Have him spread it thin an when it dries have him rub his fingers in small areas until it tears and rolls up leaving a small hole. Have him create bigger hols and smaller holes. then have him powder the whole thing (to keep it from sticking to itself any further) then have him remove it from the formica. He'll now have like a giant rubber netting looking thing. Use medical adhesive to glue it to an actor and have a demon put the other end in his mouth and have the demon pull away it looks like stretchy chunky flesh... otherwise known as "nernies" or "Chunks-o-flesh" It can be a very convincing effect. Also it works great for sound effects. Have him record and tear some apart near a mic. You get good tearing and popping sound effects that can be laid over that scene.

It's good though. He has potential.
