I love that. Isn't that point of view precisely which makes it so easy for non-believers to be so disparaging about organized religions?
I have never understood the idea that all-powerful, all-seeing beings, who are frequently reputed to be concerned about everything down to how you dress and wear your hair, really don't care when someone ignores whichever of their laws that person happens to find inconvenient.
Surely that is why we have the contradiction in terms of Christian fundamentalism: people who are turned on by the old fire and brimstone but prefer not to be Jewish, so they call themselves Christian and simply ignore the new testament. I know there is the get-out clause that we can repent after, but how can you genuinely repent something you knowingly did (or didn't do) over and over?
