I have WinRAR on my desktop, as well as rar tools on my servers. So, as a compression format, for me, zip is obsolete.
However, since you're archiving media, you won't get much compression from either zip or rar, so it makes sense to put them in the more ubiquitous format (zip)Comment

zip is supported by all.. and although rar is a bit more efficient who gives a shit about those extra % compression with current dataspeeds?Comment

definatly prefer .zip files
i downloaded the rar program and only used it for about a week before i uninstalled it.
not too many things come as .rar , most commonly used are zip files.
